Hot damn. No one could have said it better, describing how my fellow alum Skins really felt about the primitives.
Good job, Bama!
Thank you for the compliment Frank.
It really was the most unbalanced relationship. They genuine saw (see?) him as one of them, as somebody who was contributing to the revolution by his work on a web-site. He saw them as a nuisance but decent source of income - he certainly didn't see himself as one of them.
The idea that he'd pop in from time-to-time to say 'hello' really does illustrate their delusions about him (which matches their delusions about most other things too).
I always wondered if Skinner started the site on a whim and then had it surprisingly grow into a money-maker, or if he planned it all along. He had banners advertising the site at President Bush's inauguration and he took every opportunity to separate the fools from their money, which seems to indicate he had a plan to make money off the site, but he just isn't that terribly smart. So I tend to believe his original concept was a "I hate Bush" site but, once it became profitable, all of a sudden he realized that the DUmmies would continue to send him money as long as he maintained an echo chamber. I think that's why he finally bailed. He couldn't take dealing with the constant infighting between the various kooks on his site and he found a sucker willing to pay to assume that duty.
Never understood why anyone grovels at the feet of the founder of a website. Despite being a leftist, David Allen/$kimmer was a full on capitalist who exploited the gullibility of his fellow liberals. And like Kevin Bacon's character in Animal House, the DUmmies just constantly say "thank you sir, may I have another?"
Their adoration is disturbing. It reminds me of how citizens living under totalitarianism embrace their leaders. They recognize their individual positions are tenuous, so they suck up to anyone who can help them, report on any dissent and make sure they toe the party line.
