Thanks SLW.
He WAS a sweetie.
But if you can believe it he was spoiled.
He refused to eat his dog food.
He turned his nose up at it when we fed him.
He held out all day long through all 3 meals while patrolling the kitchen during food prep.
Then, at the very end of the day, after we were in bed with the lights out, he would sneak over to his bowl then and eat...if he wasn't already full on people food.
That was his favorite trick.
So if I wanted him to eat when I put his food down, I played "can daddy have" with his bowl.
After a couple of threats to his bowl that he fended off, he would start eating, and I could leave him in peace.

What a smart dog. It's incredible how dogs can train us, vs the other way around. It sounds like he got his way with the food thing--getting what he wanted. That's such a cute story.

My Blue (my avatar pup) really gave me a tough time with food. They sound similar. But poor Blue had to take so many pills for over 10 years that it really got to be a challenge. He kept upping the ante. It got to the point that I'd have to roll the pills into peanut butter, then wrap the pb ball with lunch meat. He decided he didn't like the turkey that I got from Costco. Noooo, he wanted really high end beef wrapped around that ball. Ditto with cottage cheese. Instead of the generic Publix cottage cheese, I made the mistake, once, of getting a higher grade. The little bum then would only eat the good stuff.  I fed the other stuff to Darlene (just a couple tablespoons mixed in their kibble).

Hope they both meet at that Rainbow Bridge and can swap stories about how they kept us going.  :-)

Took Belle to the vet today for vaccination boosters. She dresses out at 69 lbs. which is a loooong way from her peak weight at 99+ lbs. She's always hungry, but that's typical for a golden.

Our Beagle weighs a little over 40 pounds, she's fat.  I think the vet is going to put her on a mandatory diet next visit.

She's adorable. Kudos to her for the weight loss. Our Bella and Darlene don't mind having their pics taken. In fact, they're hams. Will post a few pics later. But Darlene is terrified of fireworks. Bella thank God hasn't copied that little habit of Darlene, but in all other things she follows her leader, the head honcho. She won't even go outside without Darlene. I hope Darlene's health holds up. She will be 11 on St Patrick's Day.  Bella is only 4 and would be lost without Darlene.

That looks just like my almost 4yo Abby. She is lazy by loves to run, @ 70lbs max now.
