I would guess there was a vulnerability in the update SR said he just ran, and some hacker's bot scanning ip addresses found it. Doubt it was our last trolls, or even someone who knew what site they were hitting.

The update I mentioned last week was strictly on our ISP's
end. They were doing a hardware update on all their servers.

From talking with our ISP's tech staff it looks like this current
fiasco is the fault of a problem with the vB code or maybe an
addon to CU's site.

I'm hoping vBulletin's staff may have seen this or something like
it in the past. We need to know how this hacker got past all the
security or they'll just do it again.

Heard back from my tech support guy and we just have to setup
a time when I can turn the server back on for him to start looking
at this. I will also see if he can get the email thing fixed quick but
you might see a few and if you get one please ignore it.

This statement concerns me greatly. I'm a Super Mod over there (Apocalypse) and never got one. He likely used the sites mass email system that would send out an email to every registered member.

But if I never got one, and sounds like SR and a couple other mods didn't ether. Then it's highly likely our accounts have had their email's changed to something he controls. Meaning should we just change our PW's when we log back in thinking that would be good enough, he could then use the email system to do a recover lost pw for our accounts. And judging by what he had up when he took the site down, My guess is SR's account was absolutely under his control.

SR if you read this, when you get the site back up, you better remove all mod powers of everyone until we can get our accounts fully back under our control. Changed our PWs and email links to our accounts.

I remember there was another troll who got banned repeatedly at CU. He also caused trouble I remember. I remember he threatened people.

Don't get too paranoid folks, I'm starting a rebuild. Our server has been cleaned
so we will be starting off fresh and clean.

The only negative and it may prove a positive is my last backup is a little old
but will be a good thing in the end.

Not sure when we will be back up but it shouldn't be much later than the
beginning of next year.

Certainly miss perusing the site considering I've been a member for 16+ years. Know how much you and STLW care about CU, and am confident that you will do everything in your Vader-esque power to get everything restored.

back.

Because of the current and future political climate
in this country and with conservatives being
threatened by our supposed leaders, I'm not sure
it's worth it.

You can bet the Libtard scum in this country will be
watching sites like CU and reporting them.

The political climate in this country has turned against
us. Just look what the Fascist Facebook and Twitter
scum have done. They are after Fox now too and openly
admit it.

I've been mulling this over a lot ever since the election, the subsequent leftist takeover, and finally CU being taken down.

Have a particular idea and a specific site host in mind, which I'm actually in the process of actually setting up. I'll share as I have all the pertinent information crafted.
