Title: Big Dog on the ray-de-oh
Post by: Big Dog on December 06, 2014, 11:39:11 PM
Posted in the Sandhills forum, to keep personal information away from lurking DUmmies' eyes.

One of the projects I have been working on this past year is a monthly educational TV show on Salina's community access channel. The show is called Liberty TV, and it is based on my essay series, The Liberty Papers.  (If anyone is interested, Liberty TV can be watched online at http://www.salinatv.org. I am working on setting up a YouTube channel for the program, but haven't gotten it done yet.)

The local conservative talk radio station, KINA 910 AM, asked me to appear on their morning program Coffee Talk from time to time. I am also going to guest host the program sometimes after the new year.

I am talking about books every person should read before age 18, and again before turning 40. I was on a couple of weeks ago, discussing George Orwell's book 1984 and comparing the book to current American politics.

My next appearance will be this coming Wednesday from 8:30-9:00 AM Central time, and we are going to talk about Animal Farm.

The station broadcasts online, at http://salinapost.com. Click on the "Radio" button at the top of the page, and select 910 KINA. If you listen in, and are inspired to call, the studio line is (785) 309-0910. If you call in from far away, be sure to tell the nice folks in Central Kansas what city and state you're calling from!

Okay, I suppose I should confess that our esteemed colleague shared much of this with me when he was planning it, and setting up The Liberty Papers.

When he told me each piece would be about two minutes*, I expressed skepticism; what could one possibly say in two minutes, other than, "Hello, well, I've talked enough, so good-bye"#?

So Big Dog read off one of the pieces, in two minutes.

I was surprised at all that one can say in two minutes, and it was all meat, no fat.

*I think it was two minutes, but at any rate, it was a very short length of time.

#those who've chatted with me on the telephone are familiar with this phenomenon.

Good for you, BD.

I'll try to catch some of the Liberty Papers online.

KINA doesn't archive their original broadcasting. If I can figure out a way to record Wednesday's show, I'll do it.

I'm "stickying" this to the top of the page, so that whenever you're scheduled to talk, you can announce it here, for our illumination, since it's apparently not available after you're done talking?

I have no idea of audio on the internet; never heard it, don't know what it all involves.

Am I correct in assuming that you can be heard only when you're on live?

If the radio station (or copyright holder) saves the audio, like in a podcast or archives, then the program can be listened to again.

The other option is for a listener to record the program off the air, and save the recording online. I'll see if I can do that.

The day after Christmas is when #10 Top DUmmie of 2014 and #09 Top DUmmie, and one of the special awards, are announced.

Too bad it couldn't be the day before New Year's, when the Top DUmmie and the winner of the franksolich are announced.

But without being real explicit about it, maybe you can slip something in about the Top DUmmies?  No need to mention conservativecave--maybe the owners have a rule against endorsing specific things, and one has to follow the rules--but perhaps some general sort of vague description of what the Top DUmmies are.

Working on show prep tonight. I'm planning to use some of the material I wrote here at CC- the "Don't rob, don't loot" poem, and Obama as the Ayatollah of the World in particular.

One of the Wichita TV stations did a Snowmageddon report about the snowfall moving through the region. Not much snow to speak of. One of the reporters sat in a bar with her camera pointed out the window at the snow- smart gal! I'm going to say that it made me think "that's how Dean Martin would have reported the news."

Our own Cave grown celebrity !

Definitely no celebrity, my friend. Just a guy having fun on the ray-dee-oh.

We had a good time today. First two hours of news commentary, lots of calls. We hit Sony/NK; Russia's economic freefall and the Bank of Russia raising prime interest rates to try to stave off bank runs (comparing to the US in 1929); Obama, as Ayatollah of the World, calling the Paki terror attack "deranged", but refusing to use the words "Islam" or "Moslem"- leading into Obama's willful blindness about Islam and how it came from his experience as a child sitting in Moslem school in Indonesia; Snowmageddon; and some Salina (Smallville) City Council goodness.

Spent the last hour on the philosophy of liberty, gun talk, self defense, concealed carry, the physical and psychological disarmament of the Australian people, and the ongoing attempts to disarm the American people.

Here you go for your next show and talk about ammo:

"King Arthur: How does it... um... how does it work?
Sir Lancelot: I know not, my liege.
King Arthur: Consult the Book of Armaments.
Brother Maynard: Armaments, chapter two, verses nine through twenty-one.
Cleric: [reading] And Saint Attila raised the hand grenade up on high, saying, "O Lord, bless this thy hand grenade, that with it thou mayst blow thine enemies to tiny bits, in thy mercy." And the Lord did grin. And the people did feast upon the lambs, and sloths, and carp, and anchovies, and orangutans, and breakfast cereals, and fruit bats, and large chu...
Brother Maynard: Skip a bit, Brother...
Cleric: And the Lord spake, saying, "First shalt thou take out the Holy Pin. Then shalt thou count to three, no more, no less. Three shall be the number thou shalt count, and the number of the counting shall be three. Four shalt thou not count, neither count thou two, excepting that thou then proceed to three. Five is right out. Once the number three, being the third number, be reached, then lobbest thou thy Holy Hand Grenade of Antioch towards thy foe, who, being naughty in My sight, shall snuff it.
Brother Maynard: Amen.
All: Amen.
King Arthur: Right. One... two... five!
Galahad: Three, sir.
King Arthur: Three!"

Jerry served up Ursula Andress as a nice surprise. After we went off-air, I reminded him that our audience is not made up exclusively of nursing home residents, but even men in nursing homes appreciate Ursula Andress.

DC Hannah made that show.
The tragedy is he was only kept on for 24 minutes.
Our own Big Dog is a good side kick in the best traditions of Ed Mcmahon.
But his talent goes far beyond sidekick.
He should be in the broadcast chair and have his own sidekick.
Every utterance was perfectly in time, and enhanced the listening (and watching) experience.
It was almost like listening to a concerto.

BD, I do have a suggestion concerning your mic skills -- don't get too close to it. That condenser mic you're speaking on looks (and sounds) like a good one. No need to get too close -- it works just fine. If you get too close, the engineer can't always adjust and it sounds muffled.

Jerry has good mic skills.

More modern-day versions of the Ursula Andress in Dr. No emerging from the ocean include Bo Derek in "10" and Halle Berry. Ursula's an icon, even today. If Jerry didn't know that, he needs more coffee. Tell him Euph said so.  :-)

They are trying to take away our Big Dog...

All of us of a certain age have stories like that …
where our car radios put us places we couldn’t go, taught us songs we’d never know and gave us a free view into the local culture and personality of every town we ever drove through.

AM/FM radios in our cars have created a culture all their own. From Rush Limbaugh to Diane Rehm, from Casey Kasem to Dr. Laura, it has created a legion of legends, a mountain of music, a diversity of experiences we’d never have enjoyed otherwise.

The car radio soon could be a thing of the past. Some developers, contrary to all evidence of consumer preference, want to supplant the traditional AM / FM car radio with various audio apps.

The presentation went well. Lonnie liked the segments: Liberal Lunacy, Gun Talk, Stupid Criminal Tricks, Bourbon & Cigars (manly good stuff, like bacon, weekend motorcycle trips, yoga pants, local festivals and live music events), and a manly, humorous call-in advice segment. Each week would end with 'The Last Word', an opinion segment on a major story of the week. All from my take-no-prisoners libertarian perspective, and wicked sense of humor.

Besides the morons that attempt to rob a convenience store and get shot by the store clerk, expiring out in the parking lot, what kinda stuff do you have in mind for the "Stupid Criminal Tricks" segment?

I like the Gun Talk idea. I'd probably call in to talk about the sear issue I had with my two RIA 1911s. Definitely was a problem with those two guns. My gunsmith was finally able to get the sears reworked so they actually held the hammer back when the palm safety wasn't being actuated.  :therock:

That kind of story, plus stories like the guy who wrote the robbery note on his own deposit slip, or the guy who blinded himself by pulling on the ski mask crooked.

One step closer: I met with the General Manager again today. He's excited about the idea. He asked me to find 4 sponsors whose businesses I believe in, for the 4 half hours of the program. We discussed a 2 year contract, and we also talked about my receiving a percentage of any ad revenue above the break-even point.

We are going to set up an after-hours open house at the station, to introduce the program and give potential advertisers a chance to ask questions.

 :yahoo: :yahoo: :yahoo:

Now, I need some good ideas:

1. One of my segments will be talk about firearms, 2nd Amendment, and stories of armed self-defense. I need a name for the segment, because my first choice, "Gun Talk", is already taken.

2. I need a good name for another segment, manly personal advice (think Dear Abby, but with my attitude and sense of humor).

How about "True Grit" for your manly talk segment? That's if there are no copyright issues with that title. Or just simply "Man Talk"? Another possible - "Factor T (for Testosterone)".

The gun segment could be "Trigger Talk", "Brass Back Atcha", "Guns 'n Ammo" or "Defend Yourself".

Oh, yeah. I also compared he 17 point plan to Atlas Shrugged.
Speaking Of Ayn, today the biographer for Ayn Rand accused(in Time magazine) Ayn of being the cause of the Charleston shooting.
I posted an article for it somewhere today in a thread about the Tennessee terrorist.

Last night was "Feelings, Identity, and Reality". I blast trannys, Black Lives Matters, and the government and liberals who enable them.

Question: Is it time to take this thread public (out of the Sandhills Forum)?

Works for me.  :cheersmate:

You done good, BD. No sense hiding what you've done. Any personal information in this thread and it seems like you're the only guy that might have a concern.

I've been having lots of fun on the ray-de-oh. Lots of politics, and manly good times.

I have guests in the studio when I can. Tonight, I was joined by Noel and Olivia, two players from the Salina Sirens Roller Derby team. We promoted Cirque du Slay, a bout with Junction City's town team coming up on Sunday.

Life is good when you're the Big Dog!

Previous guests included our new indoor arena football team, the Salina Liberty; XWE Wrestling, a local promotion; a local buffalo and Wagyu beef rancher; a grillmaster; and local gun store owners. Next Thursday I am going to interview the owner of Smallville's new cigar shop.

Oh now, they look exactly like charming Kansas girls should look, and I bet they got personalities to match.  You're a lucky man, able to surround yourself with talent as aesthetic as this.

Lovely, and very nice women. It was fun to talk to them.

Update on my ray-de-oh program:

Last April, I moved to Kansas City, and ended the program on KINA. Straight Talk with DC Hannah is now a weekly podcast, with the same irreverent humor; serious discussion of politics, culture, and economics; Bourbon & Cigars; guns, gear, survival, self-defense, and the Second Amendment; and full-frontal unapologetic libertarianism that we had before.

Check it out at straighttalkradio.net/podcast (http://straighttalkradio.net/podcast). We're also on iTunes and Stitcher; you can subscribe to Straight Talk with DC Hannah on either platform. We are also on Facebook, @StraightTalkWithDCHannah.

If you like what you hear, consider becoming a patron at patreon.com/straighttalkradio.
