Every now and then one will walk through our yard, trip and break a leg, my husband feels so sorry for them he has to put them out of their misery.

Born and raised in South Florida.
Ate grilled gator tail ... once!

Nasty!
Tasted like swamp-water!

Maybe it's the cook?
I don't know, the guy was a Seminole and if there is one thing the Seminoles know .. it's Gators!

Speaking of crocodilians, Southern Florida is the only state where both alligators and crocodiles co-locate in nature. Thanks to escapes and other introductions, we now also have thriving groups of caimans since 1960 or so. And there is a small possibility that escaped Nile crocodiles may be biding their time in the Everglades...

Crocodiles have functional "salt glands" that can exude excess salt. Crocs have been found dozens of miles out in the Gulf. Alligators' glands are not functional, but they can traverse short distances in salt water between freshwaters. A couple of years ago, fishermen caught and trussed - up an alligator on Venice Beach near the Venice Inlet...
