I seem to remember the first female F-14 pilot--Lt. Kara Hultgreen, IIRC--wound up coming up short of the deck on one attempt . . . and she essentially "tried to push the carrier," with predictable results.
3rd trip to the carrier after DQ'ing 2 previous times. Females are so rare at that level, not many have the right stuff, a combination of grit, determination, academic prowess, eye hand coordination, endurance, and thick skin. Their male counterparts rarely see a trip to the carrier for carrier qualification the second time, it's that serious. I read the post accident report, pilot error all the way, but so much of it not her fault. The pressure to push through minorities caused many to disregard good judgement, and let minority preferences take precedence. No one wanted to tell Kara she was just not cut out for the job. It's a crying shame, because her ham fisted approach turn stall at her ultimate DQ could easily have taken out many on board the carrier. Not my opinion fact, from personal experience and observation. The price sacrificial lambs have to pay.
There were only two options for gender. At last count there are at least 12, according to libs. By that standard, I'm a male lesbian.

I'm sure the Oconomy will doom Obama, regardless of the message he delivers.  And in a way, I think the media may very well make it worse, by pretending things are better -

To explain :

It doesn't matter what the unemployment numbers are, just what unemployment means to you and your family. If you have no job, and cant put food on the table - as far as you're concerned, unemployment/underemployment is too damned high.

Now let's say Joe Democrat lives in a swing state, and the MSM is pounding away at how wonderful life is under Obama. Joe may be more willing to either protest vote or not vote at all if he think that even though his life sucks, that there are enough happy voters in his state to give a win to Obama anyway. If enough Joe Democrats follw this example, it may result in a 'surprise' that DU will claim as fraud.

And if you look at the history of the Delta Dagger (F-102) you'd know it was an incredibly unforgiving airframe, which is one reason why it had such a relatively short service life of barely a decade in active service.

I know.  They had them at Griffiss, but I never saw them flying over the Adirondacks.  Not much use doing NOE in those things if they were tasked to be interceptors.

I think I can confidently say "no" to that one, Freep. Carrier landings require extensive training and practice and are still dicey affairs. Landing on fixed runways cannot fully prepare you for them. No way they would risk the President's and so many other people's lives like that, not to mention millions of dollars worth of hardware, and I'm sure the Prez himself would recognize his limitations.

Yeah, he was just a passenger. You can always tell a commercial pilot who was in the navy from one that was in the AF. One "lands" their plane; the other "crashes" their plane in a controlled fashion and stops in seconds onto the carrier. This apparently has them trained to land a 767 into the runway like a brick into a concrete wall.

I flew on a Tennessee Air National Guard C-130 back in 2002 with a former navy pilot at the stick.  He landed us at JRB Carswell like we were the COD flight hitting the second wire on the deck.
