Interesting picture.

I'm curious.  How did you find our site all the way from Iran?

I was searching Google for different opinions on Iran and Iranian politics from American people

Cyrus,
Can you translate these markings.  I think it's a date, about 1930.  From my Persian Mauser.
I will get back to you when I figure out how to post a picture. :banghead:
I didn't think I could do it!
Thanks in advance if you can help, Cyrus.

I don't understand what he means by liberal roots, did liberalism exist in the same way it does today? From my political science studies I know that classical liberalism (what he might be referring to) is very different than modern liberalism and I wonder how he feels about neoliberalism aswell.

That's an astute observation and quite correct.

Traditional terms have been co-opted into meanings completely alien to their historical meanings by both sides to some extent, though the Left seems to have completely run away with that practice.  Also, you do have to realize that Wiki a less than reliable resource on any current (Or even past) political issue, since anything on it was posted by an advocate rather than an impartial observer or ethical historian, and even if mitigated down to rationality by other posters, any such article on it always retains the original author's bias to a greater or lesser degree.  On top of that, the quote really doesn't say that he is a traditional liberal Democrat, it says that's what he thinks he is.

No problem Delmar.

First word: tofang ("weapon"/"fire arm") then: the years inscription: 1309 (today is 1389 so that means 80 year old), then: nemooneh (means "prototype" or "production" or "replica-type"), then: karha (means "works"), then Brno (the company name/manufacturer) finally: 04090. Read this right-to-left.

Thanks for this information, Tanker.

I agree that Wikipedia has bias 100%.

Someone told me something about "thighing".  Is that really a common practice?

GOOGLE "Thighing"

Yes this is commonly practiced by Arabs especially the Lebanese, it's part of their culture, however there is nothing in the Koran that prescribes this.

If I came to Iran, would I have to cover up?  Is red hair seen as evil?

about thighing:
from this link

Quote
Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini, The Supreme Leader of Iran, the Shia Grand Ayatollah, 1979-89 said in his official statements:

"A man can quench his sexual lusts with a child as young as a baby. However, he should not penetrate. Sodomizing the baby is halal (allowed by sharia). If the man penetrates and damages the child, then he should be responsible for her subsistence all her life. This girl, however, does not count as one of his four permanent wives. The man will not be eligible to marry the girl’s sister. It is better for a girl to marry when her menstruation starts, and at her husband's house rather than her father's home. Any father marrying his daughter so young will have a permanent place in heaven."

emphasis mine....

WTF!

Depends on which part of Iran, if it's Tehran then most people wear a light shall, but maybe in Qom there would have to be chador.

Here is how people dress in North Tehran:

Also red hair is not seen as evil, many Iranians have red hair.

Rugnuts.........that is why I asked if it was really for real.  I have had some muslims tell me it's nothing but a rumor and they won't own up to it.  It's disgusting and I can't see how any mother (muslim, christian, athiest, etc) would let a man touch her child like that.

Cyrus, do you know why that custom is allowed?

It most likely comes from Arabian pagan doll worship and sexual rituals during those times.

I know that pre-Islamic what are modern Saudi Arabians would ritual murder babies and children.

Hi Cyrus, and welcome!

What did you think of Obama's silence during the 2009 Iranian uprising, and the death of Neda Agha-Soltan?

And a less serious question:  One Iranian author I'm fond of is Firoozeh Dumas (lives in US now).  Have you heard of her?
