Any interesting food plans for the 4th?

I am keeping it simple. Early dinner of steak on the grill, homemade bread with Irish butter, salad and homemade peach ice cream for dessert (yes, I have a bunch of those SC beauties). After that we go out to meet friends and watch fireworks.

1. Bison t-bone steak with potatoes and green beans from our garden. Homemade pink grapefruit granita.

We're going out for mussels and salad at Carabbas on Sunday for our 12th wedding anniversary.

Wow.  Grandma's a young one, probably one of the youngest primitives in the cooking and baking forum on Skin's island.

Grandma once posted a photograph of herself, in the background sitting on something--i.e., not a very clear image--and with her white hair, stout build, grandmotherly face, and all that, I figured her to be circa her mid-60s or later.

The other day, Grandma mentioned she never got married until she was 38 years old.

With this being her 12th anniversary, that makes Grandma a young one (young for Skins's island), at 50 years of age.

2. Whoa! Did you shoot a bison?

Sounds like a fun weekend

3. A family in our coop raises them. It's really delicious and lower in cholesterol than beef. We love the ground bison for meatloaf.

Your menu sounds delicious, too. And I agree, simple is best when there's lots going on. Have fun!

8. That sounds soooo good.

I like bison but can only get the 1-lb. boutique packages of ground meat around here.

The sparkling husband primitive who, because he's been "bad," the sparkling husband primitive's wife is giving him just a bag of potato chips today:

17. Bison! I wish we could find more than ground bison here. It has been YEARS since I had a bison steak

Leaner and drier but beefier than beef.

4. Going to my brother's for a cook out

I'm in charge of pies. The mixed berry and the peach pie are cooling. I have an apple pie in the oven now.

5. Probably not. I'm trying to lose weight, so I dare not fix the batch of potato salad I have a craving for, lol.

I did pick up a package of hot dogs with a FREE coupon, lol. My annual hot dog frenzy. Whole wheat buns and mustard and relish to go with.

6. It's still a hot dog....But...

Have you tried the Hebrew National 99% fat free dogs? They are only 50 calories each and really pretty tasty when you gotta have a dog. I really like them....They're pricey but I've seen them go on sale every once in a while then I stock up. They keep a long time in the freezer.

16. We're all getting together at my daughter's house and everyone will bring a dish. I'm taking a broccoli salad with bacon, cherry tomatoes and cheddar cheese cubes with a slaw type dressing.

As long as the razorback tranny primitive doesn't use any onions or peppers or raisins in all that, she should be okay.

18. Small block party tomorrow, and...no one knows who will bring what, or even exactly where it will be, so picked up a pile of taco shells and am making taco fillings.

I see a pineapple lurking in the kitchen, so it's pineapple upside down cake for dessert.

I might find a head of cabbage tonorrow, and if I do I'll make pineapple or mango cole slaw.

Be careful to not invite Ms. Ed, the unappellated eohippus, to the party.

But the main course will be "Obama Spill"..............yuck.
“The American people will never knowingly adopt socialism. But, under the name of ‘liberalism’, they will adopt every fragment of the socialist program, until one day America will be a socialist nation, without knowing how it happened.” - Norman Thomas, U.S. Socialist Party presidential candidate 1940, 1944 and 1948

"America is like a healthy body and its resistance is threefold: its patriotism, its morality, and its spiritual life. If we can undermine these three areas, America will collapse from within."  Stalin

Shouldn't they be wearing black armbands and waving ComIntern flags from balconies today??
