Primary Capitalism
Real change.

By Mark Steyn

Quote
This past week’s issue of The Economist has a heart-rending vignette from one of the most ruthlessly capitalist industries on the planet: “In 2006 EMI, the world’s fourth-biggest recorded-music company, invited some teenagers into its headquarters in London to talk to its top managers about their listening habits. At the end of the session the EMI bosses thanked them for their comments and told them to help themselves to a big pile of CDs sitting on a table. But none of the teens took any of the CDs, even though they were free.”

Great stuff!
"When you see that trading is done, not by consent, but by compulsion - when you see that in order to produce, you need to obtain permission from men who produce nothing - when you see that money is flowing to those who deal, not in goods, but in favors - when you see that men get richer by graft and by pull than by work, and your laws don't protect you against them, but protect them against you - when you see corruption being rewarded and honesty becoming a self-sacrifice - you may know that your society is doomed."

It is a while since I read anything by Mark Steyn, I had forgotten how funny he can be. Thanks for posting that.

Sure sure. I've got SteynOnline in my favorites and there is new stuff almost every day. At least once a week something there just kills me. :lmao: (and the politics are usually right on)

Sadly he's doing "Monica Week" this week and, though hilarious, I forgot how sick of that stuff I was. Still, his greatest hits go back as far as 10 years and are a very interesting journey through the political time machine.

This, ladies and gentlemen, is what happens when an industry does not evolve.
