You have to do that from outside the OS... you can't delete the file from inside Windows.

The easiest boot disk to create is Hirens.  It's one file (the ISO image) and the burn-to-disc utility.

If you want to worship an orange pile of garbage with a reckless disregard for everything, get on down to Arbys & try our loaded curly fries.

Okay, downloading Hirens. Almost 600MB. Big honkin' zip file.

Now that it's downloaded, now what?

Unzip it and put a blank disc in the drive.  There should be a BurnToCD.exe utility that will put the ISO image onto the CD.

Reboot the computer, boot to the CD drive and select Windows XP from the main menu and go from there.  You can't get much easier than that.

Okay, I think I managed to unzip the files - about a dozen of them - and make the CD.

But I ain't gonna boot to the CD on this computer. Ain't nothing wrong with it. I'll keep it for the next BSOD.
