Have you noticed the fat women in South Africa? Sunday TV showed several choirs singing in South Africa and all the black women in the front rows were FAT. They spent most of the summer months growing and harvesting food andcutting firewood to keep warm--they didn't have a living wage and even if they did, they likely didn't depend on someone else to heat their homes.  No one should have to worry about this? WTF man? This is pathetic considering actually how LITTLE many of us have to worry about this compared to our ancestors or those in a 3rd world countries. All you have to do here is generate enough income to pay someone to provide electricity or gas to your home to heat it--you don't have to search for it, cut it, stack it, or keep the fire going if you don't want to. Damn no wonder these ****ers are never happy. They have zero perspective of the past to appreciate a damn thing they have today.

Must be more to that story, every professional license I've ever heard of just goes to an 'Inactive' status if you don't pony up annually, you may have to pay a penalty to bring it back later but I've never heard of them revoking one.  Of course maybe her state has some Stalinist rules to squeeze out every dime every year from every licensee...some place like, say, Blue State Hell Californistan.  Maybe she couldn't pay it because she actually got fired in some spectacular failure mode, and the 'Lost license' thing is just a face-saver.

Well, sometimes you actually have to have a sponsor still too to hold a license. It isn't a matter of just fees, but usually the time alloted is generous. Let's say she was series 7 licenses perhaps, she has 2 years to get a new sponsor(normally a new job in that industry) or yes, you have to find some of those establishments out there willing to sponsor you to just hold your license and you pay the fee. Your clock starts ticking when your sponsor organization, usually your employer does not pay the next month after you resign because you have separated from service. Many people who stay home to raise children might let there's go knowing they can pass the test again at a later date with a new sponsor(in the previous case, many new employers since you have held the license previously will give you an agreed upon time--maybe 6 mos. to retake the exam and act as your sponsor to sit for it).

I'm with you though, she should be reapplying for that license and getting back to work if her husband is the lower wage earner. Financially it makes more sense.

And like I said the total lack of historical perspective of what people in generations prior had to go through to keep from starving or freezing to death--not chase a little chill or have the shelves stocked but to avoid DEATH!  :banghead:Really our country is full of ingrates now...so sad...really so sad. And you know we are doomed to repeat it and these fools won't get it until the day they really are freezing and starving in the cold with nobody to complain too ie learn the lessons the hard way.

This old farmhouse has always been like trying to heat a parking lot...know what my folks did when brother and myself were little?
They closed off half the place and the two of us slept on a mattress on the floor in a room that had a kerosene stove burning.

Even this house which is a lot newer gets super cold when the temps drop like tonight. I usually let all the kids camp out in my room which is the warmest room in the house. My boys go camping style on the fllor with mountains of comforters and sleeping bags and my daughter bunks with me..the kids love it and everyone is toasty. When we lived in my marriage home with a big fireplace, when we would lose power in the winter we all piled in the family room and kept the fireplace going into the weee hours. people have been huddling together since the dawn of time when it gets too cold. You do what you need to to stay warm including conserve and heat only one room if you need be. The kids will survive for having to all sleep in the same room, even in their parent(s) room if need be to conserve heat and energy to keep it warm enough.

I know I'm not the only woman or man on this board who went through a divorce and became a single parent.  This happened to me at age 29 when my son was 3, and I worked part-time.  Yeah, I had to get a full-time job and had to keep the part-time job to make ends meet.  Getting food stamps or extra help never even crossed my mind.  Getting help to heat the home my son and I lived in (in Northern Indiana with long cold winters) was my responsibility.  Making sure my son had food and clothes and day care was my responsibility.

I understand people need help now and then, but it used to be something that you didn't advertise and shout from the rooftops that you couldn't take care of your own child/children.  By all means, it was to be used as a hand up, not a permanent handout. 

We are failing as a country, not because people go hungry, but because people aren't even ashamed anymore to be getting any sort of welfare.

My Mom ended up on welfare and her shame was evident.  She HATED it and worked as hard as a human could (it killed her early IMO) to get off.

Imagine having 7 kids (her mistake: letting my dad off the hook which would not have happened today) AND taking night classes in accounting AND eventually getting off of welfare.  Through her own efforts.

She always made it clear through her attitude: "this is temporary and it is killing me to do it."  Not in a bad way -- she was just doing what she had to do.

I have no education. Started working at my job for $4.46 hr, the same job I have today. Today I pay enough in just income taxes to support a family of 4. I heat with wood, I grow my own food including chicken and rabbits. I hunt and fish. I buy beef and pork from local farmers. So DUmmies I eat like a king and after hearing this pathetic story, if this tree hugging asshole were at my door starving I would kick it in the face! I almost can't wait till TSHTF!

We are not a nation of decent and civilized people anymore. My mother was in the same boat but she did take food stamps for a very short period of time between jobs. She was very embarrassed to use them but there was nothing else. I have no problem with a safety net but the hammock that the DUches complain about gets me pretty steamed up. One It screws the people that really need it and it really screws everyone else that has to pay for the lazy, greedy ****s.

This goes to a question I put forth a few weeks ago.

What would piss off a DUchebag more?

1. Not being qualified to steal money from other people and lying to get it.

2. Being qualified for a social program and not taking it.

I also like the idea of putting welfare recipients to work, earning their benefits on state-operated farms, forests, mines, and road crews. Take the taxpayers' money, swing the taxpayers' pick. The only exceptions would be those certified as permanent totally disabled for physical conditions. Mental health and substance abuse disabilities would not qualify for exemption.

Jobs Americans won't do? I don't think so.

You mean you skipped out on the liberal beatdown that poses as education. You are obviously intelligent and educated in a real way, not to mention a whole lot more self sufficient than most of the DUmmies with 5-6 worthless degrees and tens of thousands in student loans they will never pay off, and who have no idea how to meet their own basic needs.
