So, my food stamps got cut today

Just checked my balance as it was due to roll over at midnight and we've had a $0.00 balance for about a week. We have been getting $476. It was increased to $481 for some reason in October (something about new allowable deductions). Then it was decreased to $444.00 after November 1 when that budget thing expired. We had to renew, so I sent in all of our stubs, etc. My husband has acquired a third job since our last renewal. This new job pays anywhere from about $25.00 per week to maybe about $60.00 per week. Well, our new SNAP amount is $265.00. I am shaking. We aren't making it with his three jobs (and, yes, I have been trying to find employment) and the $400+ was hard to do with our family of four - and I cook from scratch, use coupons, shop sales, etc. I knew it would be decreased because my husband had a new job. I just didn't think by this much. I am in a full panic at the moment.
 
**** this life. **** the system that allows adults with families to support to work slave jobs for $7.75 an hour. Seriously, **** it all.
 
I've relied on the generosity of so many lately, including some beautiful folks from DU, but it's not way to live. This seriously cannot be okay in what we are told is the greatest country in the world. It's not okay.
 
Has anyone ever appealed a cut like this and had them increase your amount? I sent the required pay stubs, bank statements, rent and utility statements. They can plainly see for themselves that we're not surviving on this.
 
Gotta keep fighting the good fight to increase the minimum wage to something livable.

Lots of interesting stuff to take apart here.... of course the obligatory question of having menial employment and having a family of 4.  Unless he's doing work under the table, 3 jobs should cover all of the basics considering minimum wage.  She can't find work.... but isn't this the hiring season? weren't they just crowing on a different campfire about the unemployment rate?

That is why I will not help a Republican in trouble. That is because they enjoy hurting others. the GOPPERS remind me of a story about Vietnam. The US forces had captured some female VC. There was a young trooper who was beginning to feel sorry for them being tied up. A experienced soldier had to remind the young trooper that if he were to untie them these women would cut his throat. So remember when you help a GOPPER they will cut your throat eventually.

Nemesis may have some republicans tied up in his basement, the authorities might want to look into that.

Family of four, slightly over $1500.00 below qualifying income for Food Stamps, and receive $54.00 in aid. Have to spend over 10 hours a month at food Pantries.
 Each food truck day (second harvest) at local distribution points (2 in local area=3 trucks per month)more and more people have to get food. The day will not be to far away when demand exceeds supply.

10 hours a month would probably cover whatever food savings you'd get at the pantry if you got a job, just saying...

The DUmmy merely mentions that he's working three jobs, even if we accept this (merely for the purpose of considering the argument, of course) - there is no mention of how much he is working on each. Three jobs, with two hours per week per job still only adds up to six hours per week...

The DUmmy's name suggests somebody who would live in a hippy commune...so husband with strong work-ethic doesn't immediately spring to mind.

I always see these posts as challenges.  We need to help them out and make a DUmmie SNAP menu planner and shopping list.  So when they start bitching about how horrible the GOPPERS are, we can show them how we would handle the situation.  Also at the end of the list would be written a sample of the saying of grace before eating the meal.

Yeah, that sounds more like a casual day labor than anything that you'd normally call a 'Job,' it's more like what most would call 'A little thing on the side for a few bucks.'

And of course they cut your food stamps by the amount he added, the whole idea of food stamps is to just fill in a critical shortage, not last you for a lifetime in lieu of working for pay.

     If you look at tree-hugger's posts over time, she seems to be a fairly earnest person trying to get her family through things. You can't fault a lot of what she DOES (as opposed to what she SAYS). For example, she and/or her husband seem to be Catholics, and appeal to St. Vincent DePaul for help (one post indicates that she received $400 in direct cash from them). I think that's how most welfare should be handed out: through private donations and the largesse of the church.

     One would THINK that with DU's fervent anti-Christian and anti-Catholic bias, someone receiving cash handouts from a church-aligned charity would be reluctant to contribute posts and money. Yet she does, and for that reason, she is a hypocrite and also a scumbag.

     Tree-hugger: your husband is busting a hump trying to make a living for you and your children. Other people donate and pay taxes so that you and yours can survive in this dreadful 0bama economy. Why not shut your pie hole and find a way to help him out?

     It's possible that things could legitimately suck for her and her family, and 0bamacare is going to make it sucks even worse for her, what with the costs and the incentives it gives companies who hire hourly employees. Just one generation ago, it was impossible for someone to sit on the internet and grouse about life. I suggest she disengage from the connected world and do what our mothers and fathers did: go find ways to scrape together a buck. It's hard to do, but then again she seems crafty enough to make basic tradeoffs. If daycare costs more than her salary, and she wants to raise her kids, then surely there is some piece work she can do at home to either make more money, or to take some of the strain off the back of what must be a hell of a man who is working three hourly jobs.

     Tree-hugger, I salute your husband and I hope you find a way to help him out.

Actually this movie says a lot about self desire on how we wish to die.   We have no choice as to whom we are born but in some cases we do have a choice as to how we are to die.

Some have no choice they die in an accident or killed by the bad guys.        Some lay in hospitals hooked up to machines in great pain.

In this movie the people have lived for years in utter devastation, the world they knew is gone, may have been many years since they saw a flower or a rushing brook, a deer in the forest or a clean ocean full of fish.

How to usher someone into that sweet night ??      To this day I wonder how Jackie Kennedy pulled off her passing, we most likely will never know.
