The Friends of Steve Dawes (whoever they are) have apparently not seen the need to put the site back up.
I know they are brilliant, and wise beyond compare. This can only mean that Steve has no hope at the Bellevue city council.

Pity. I sometimes wonder how long it would take for Steve to get arrested for taking bribes, or impeached for corruption.

It would have been even more fun to see an incumbent Steve defending his record of doing nothing.
"Hey, I'm a union guy. It's what we do, NOTHING."

But best of all we will never see his moronic debates mocked by local radio and TV. We will never see his fellow councilmen laughing at him and excluding him from all the reindeer games.

So much comedy that could have been...

The election's October 15; not much time.

But no need to lose sleep; of the four candidates, despite that the (L) guy is working the hardest to win, it'll probably be the Tea Partier (R) or the former public works guy (R), both of whom have substantial name-recognition in inner-city Bellevue.

I don't think there's a run-off; I think in this case the guy with the most votes wins, period.

Steve torpedoed his own campaign with his first words, "I am the tax and spend Democrat" .

His friends know that we can sit this one out.

I have an idea, but I'm really hesitant to put it to use, because it's probably unethical.

As a moderator, I can edit comments made by other people here.

Whatever vesta posts is a "rough draft;" she needs an editor.

And so I've given thought--but no, I won't put it into action, because it's probably unethical--to, after vesta posts her rough draft, editing her comments so that they make sense, so that other members here find them agreeable.....or at least more readable.

(It sounds good, but no, I have no intention of doing it.)

Oh Frank, now you have tickled my curiosity.  Editors cost money and if anyone wishes to Edit my ramblings for free, go for it.

It would be nice to get up in the morning and read edits to my posts so I understand them myself.

I find in life it is more healthier to make fun of my faults then to make fun of others.

As for Steve, it is oh so hard to not pick him apart, but I try to see the errors of his ways and gently point them out.  He has invested time and money on his quest to be elected to some never heard of position in town government---Yet he does not look responsible or professional seated with 3 others  running for the same spot.    2 of the men look professional but he and the third look like they were getting ready to mow their lawns.

Shoes shined a spit and polish look, a well trimmed beard, hair { even if it is down to his waist can be pulled back neatly.}        Military brat and wife for most of my life, I can tell who is in charge in civilian life by the way they dress and handle themselves.

Yup, appearances do matter   and I would never vote for anyone Republican that looked or acted scruffy.    If they cannot at least take the time to put their best foot forward, then, well imagine Hillery going out side the house with her hair up in curlers, or Sara with cold cream smeared on her face.

Then-Chief Justice John Marshall observed, “Between a balanced republic and a democracy, the difference is like that between order and chaos.”

John Adams warned in a letter, “Remember democracy never lasts long. It soon wastes, exhausts, and murders itself. There never was a democracy yet, that did not commit suicide.”

I'm sure there are some here that wishes you would edit some of mine! Though not for clarity, more than likely for their crudeness! Heh, heh!

Why is it "good government" always seems to make us all poorer?
Many of us believe that "good government" makes us all richer.  That, I would argue, is a topic worthy of further discussion.

Either way, I appreciate the attention you paid to what I had to say.  Cheers!   :cheersmate:

I would change that to "Many of us believe that a smaller but more effective government can make us richer - a large and ineffective government will make us poorer."

I'm sure many of you believe in the tooth fairy, doesn't make it reality.

I can't think of a single example of government ever making everyone richer, other than the politicians. Government takes from those who have wealth, it takes from those who don't have much wealth, but earn their own money. Those who receive from the government don't get much and end up becoming addicted to their monthly checks and demand more and more. The only people who benefit are those in the government, all of us regular citizens get nothing in return and every time we turn around they are scheming new ways to take even more from us. It has been said the problem with socialism is you eventually run out of other people's money.

I may not lock my doors while sitting at a red light and a black man is near, but I sure as hell grab on tight to my wallet when any democrats are close by.

To put it another way, sure--some people walk out of casinos a lot richer than when they went in.  But most don't.

And in the long run, the only winner is the house itself.  So goes government.  You make it bigger, the only person who "wins" is the bureaucrat or politician running the joint.

The ones who believe that *any* government makes them richer are often the ones who have nothing but the largesse of that government as their sole source of income, therefore, they ARE richer than they would be without it.

One of their favorite phrases is a loud shout of "Ho de do" as they scurry toward the benefits office just prior to close of business, in an attempt to get someone to 'hold the door' open for them.  Recipients of the redistribution of assets rarely see a need to be someplace/anyplace promptly.
This too shall pass.

To those that replied to this,  Not worth the effort.

Come to think of it, unions do create jobs. Companies have to hire two workers to do the work of one.

Did you expect it would be?
"We make men without chests and expect of them virtue and enterprise. We laugh at honor and are shocked to find traitors in our midst. We castrate and then bid the geldings to be fruitful."

C.S. Lewis

A community may possess all the necessary moral qualifications, in so high a degree, as to be capable of self-government under the most adverse circumstances; while, on the other hand, another may be so sunk in ignorance and vice, as to be incapable of forming a conception of liberty, or of living, even when most favored by circumstances, under any other than an absolute and despotic government.

The Big Guy, The Omaha Weeper, Tosses His Hat Back Into The Ring....and it got stepped on.
“The American people will never knowingly adopt socialism. But, under the name of ‘liberalism’, they will adopt every fragment of the socialist program, until one day America will be a socialist nation, without knowing how it happened.” - Norman Thomas, U.S. Socialist Party presidential candidate 1940, 1944 and 1948

You also missed the fiasco of the brain-damaged primitive.

Two threads about it, they're now the first- and second-most viewed and commented upon threads in the DUmpster.  If you have a chance, read Tucker's first, and then GOBUCKS'.  These were epic; they made history.
