why am I
« on: September 07, 2013, 04:20:55 PM »
Why am I getting this, that message thing on the bottom of the screen?

It happens only when I'm on the DUmpster front page (where the threads for that forum are listed), and has been happening all the time since about three days ago.

Is there anything I can do about it?

Thanks.

You can lower your security settings but, I don't recommend it.  Windows is protecting you from receiving content that might harm your system.  You are not missing anything on the website you want to see.

Coach, what version of IE are you using?

For starters make sure your PC's bios and windows have the right time.

And just to be clear cause my mom tells me that sometimes I am not clear, when I say time I mean date and time and timezone.

Both your bios and in windows.

One might think it's not important but it is.

LMBO!! I had a problem where I got some spyware from some site that I was downloading drivers from (CNET, of all  places) After I got rid of the crap, it caused my PC to hang on the BIOS Splash screen. I reset the BIOS and forgot to reset the clock. EVERY browser I used came up with an invalid security certificate warning. I was like, "WTF" until I actually read the warning. Then, it was like, "DOH!! you dumbass!!"..... I reset the clock and all was well with the internet!!  :loser:

The clock on the taskbar is correct, and it's on central time, which it should be.

How does one find out what version of Internet Explorer one is using?  I asked this before, and found it, but that was on the past computer, not this current one.

How does one find out what time the BIOS clock is set?  I was told years ago that amateurs should never never ever mess with the BIOS.

I did that, and this is what I get.

Every time I get a different computer, things aren't where they used to be.

No "Explorer" or "Internet Explorer" or "IE" here.

Do you have a Menu bar on your browser?  Look for About Internet Explorer under the Help menu.

Reboot your computer.  When it beeps, there should be an option on the screen to press a key to open the BIOS menu.  It's usually F1 but sometimes F2 or Delete.

The main menu should show the clock time on the computer.  It should match your local time.

Okay, I'll try that tomorrow night.

It's late, and remember I was long ago cautioned that an amateur should never mess with the BIOS.

You're not changing anything, you're just looking.  Nothing to worry about.

Sorry, I forgot.  Yeah, there's a power-on self-test the computer does when it starts up.  One beep means everything is OK.

You should see a message at the bottom of the screen when the computer starts up... it will tell you which key to press.  99% of the time, it will be the F1 key.

To access the bios one has to shut down the computer and then reboot(total shut down not a restart).  When it is rebooting a screen should popup where it says a list of things. One must be quick and press either the delete key or F1 key which will bring up the bios.  It is the first screen and the date is the first thing on it. You can reset the date by the arrow keys on your keyboard.  Once you have done that, you press  the F10 key which ask you if you want to save the new settings and it should highlight the yes button.  You press enter on the keyboard and then the computer will boot up to your operating system.
