I would switch to a lithium battery instead of the traditional Ni-Cad rechargeable batteres.

Whatever type is in my cordless rechargeable mouse.  I have had a Logitech Performance MX for about three years and I only plug it in every couple of weeks or so, and I never use the off switch when not in use.
