Another Mannn Experiment that Worked
« on: June 03, 2013, 08:01:55 PM »
Remember a while ago when I combined Enchilada sauce and melted cheese to make a dip?

I made a kind of a casserole with all nuked ingredients.
I pulled out my trusty rice cooker and made a single portion (still makes a lot).
A cup of freeze dried ground beef, reconstituted it makes a lot too.
8 ounces of shredded sharp cheddar cheese.
10 oz of enchilada sauce: medium.

mix all together with a spoon and nuke for 2:30 until the cheese is melted.
It turned out great! I made it again tonight.

OK, I've crossed this line. Now I'm asking people who know how to cook. What would you add/substitute to make this even better? one of the gals at work suggested taco seasoning to spice it up.

I usually cook with mostly fresh ingredients.

Here is my version of spanish rice made in a skillet.  I use

l lb ground meat
2/3 cup uncooked rice
1 onion
garlic
8 oz can of tomato sauce
2 cups water
1 tbls dark chili powder
1/4 tsp cumin
pinch of oregeno
sliced olives
1/2 bell pepper chopped
1 lg chopped tomato or 1 cup of chunky salsa

Brown meat, onion, garlic, pepper in skillet
add rice and cook for a few more minutes
stir in remaining ingredients
put on a tight fitting lid
simmer on lowest setting for 30-40 minutes

Makes about 6-8 servings -

If you are going to add taco seasoning, I recommend 2 tsp added to the rice cooker. Serve with sour cream and store-bought guacamole.

Sounds pretty decent as is.

Adding a small amount of Jalapenos finely diced might kick it up a notch.

Freeze dried ground beef is a survival food I was taste testing sometime ago.  It comes in a huge can and if unopened it's good for 25 years.

I love it and use it in everyday cooking. I put one cup in a small bowl, add water and nuke for 2:30 seconds. Drain the excess water. It tastes just like freshly cooked ground beef!
So I use it in everyday Mr Mannn cooking. a cup for spaghetti sauce. a cup added to mac and cheese...its a great way to spice up dinner in mere moments.

Sure other people might just cook up some ground beef themselves, but my time is valuable and I'm far too important to waste time cooking like that. so Freeze dried is the right thing for me.

Sure it looks a bit like dog food until you reconstitute it. But It looks just fine right out of the microwave.
this is the best invention ever! Well OK it's second to the remote control, but after that there is no peer.

Regular ground beef is expensive enough... how much does freeze-dried ground beef cost?  I'm picturing all sorts of soy and bean fillers.
