Watertown resident captures gunfire on cell phone

 Posted: Apr 23, 2013 10:00 PM EDT Updated: Apr 24, 2013 7:22 AM EDT

(MyFoxBoston.com) – A Watertown resident in range of the gunfire exchanged between the Boston Marathon bombing suspects and officers has released several photos that he took on his cell phone of one of the biggest shootouts in recent police history.

Andrew Kitzenberg took pictures of the chaos that unfolded in Watertown late Thursday night into early Friday. He put the pictures on his website, www.getonhand.com, and blogged about what he saw.

Kitzenberg says it all started when he heard a rapid fire pop of gunfire just outside the window of his Watertown apartment.

The first photo was taken at 12:45 a.m. Friday. The image shows both Tsarnaev brothers, taking up a position behind a stolen Mercedes, engaging in a shootout with police positioned about 80 yards away.

Near the brothers is their green Honda sedan which has the door open.

Kitzenberg writes he could see them accessing the Honda, possibly for more ammunition and explosives. At their feet is a pressure cooker bomb.

When that exploded, Kitzenberg writes it enveloped the entire street with smoke and that is when the brothers made their move.

Tamerlan charged at the police on foot while Dzhokhar sped toward the police line in the black Mercedes. He broke the line and disappeared.

Brothers with the pressure cooker bomb at their feet:

How many vehicles were in area of shootout:

Bomb exploded, older brother charges police line, younger brother takes off - makes sense now why he ran his brother over.   He couldn't see him because of the smoke.

Or carrying out a suicide pact. Many muslims have a suicide pact not to be taken alive.

Getting older is mandatory
Growing up is optional

Looks like the older brother was doing a suicide run with his suicide bomb belt on, when he was hit by his brother so he never pulled the trigger.

Agreed.  Elder brother had a lot more killing to do, but the writeup I read said that the elder brother got within 10-15 feet of the cops before he was cut down by fire. That might've been in error, though, and younger brother did the cutting down for the cops since they can't seem to hit what they're shooting at.

Cause they should be able to do so when a pressure cooker bomb explodes and the street fills with smoke - which is why the brother ran him down, you know.. cause he couldn't see him?

Let's see.  There were at least two cop cars on the street, right? Which means at least four cops, right?

They've got a guy who's firing at them while he's walking/moving toward them, the street is maybe 20 feet wide? They're behind cover, right? And he gets within 10 feet of them (while wearing a suicide vest, which means the cops do NOT want that critter anywhere near them before he blows himself up) and then they finally, FINALLY put him down -- still alive, mind you -- just to have his own brother run over him in the Mercedes SUV?

COMEDY GOLD!!!  :rotf:
