Funny thing about liver, I always hated it BUT while in boot camp on Parris Island I decided to try it and it was great.

Unfortunately, I have never found it prepared as it was on Parris Island.......very thin w/lots of onions.

I asked my wife to try and find it cut very thin but it was not to be....... :bawl:

My problem with liver is the texture. It's not like meat - it's like pressed cardboard. Onions can't quite negate that.

And then the whole idea of eating organ meat is repugnant.

I like liver thin sliced , breaded and fried until it's well done, with the onions thrown on top.

I love cauliflower soup.  Made a memorable one once with fontinelli cheese.

Battlehymn, I can't believe you ate those silkworm things!  Why did you choke down most of a can?

Lots of people adore scallops, order a big plate of them.  I can take one bite, say 1/2 of those tiny ones.  It's not repulsive, but for some reason, I want no more.

I want to know those "controversial" comments that ColonelCarrots is keeping from us.

Vienna sausages, spam, chorizo (Spanish sausage that looks the same going out as it did going in), jalapenos. I like spicy food, but I don't like the flavor of jalapenos. I prefer habaneros. I also don't like biscuits and gravy, that's white people food, I've got too much Latin spice in me to enjoy it.

That's your controversial comment?   :lmao:  We've got thicker skin than that!

Chicken and Biscuits is huge around these parts.  Every church, legion, and lodge has dinners featuring them.  It's just shredded chicken in gravy, poured over halved biscuits.  The major controversy and source of catty gossip is whether or not peas and carrots belong in it or on the side.  No matter, it doesn't appeal to me and sounds bland and gummy.  It can also look like your dog got sick.

The flavor of tarragon:  Can't abide it.  I had some bearnaise sauce once just on the verge of the flu.  That will ruin a food for a lifetime.

Not a fan of liver but I do love liverwurst! I would eat liverwurst sandwiches as a kid because my dad would always have it around.  Also my mom would make Spam spread sandwiches; she'd run the Spam, some onion and green pepper through the food grinder -- they were great!

My dad was a big fan of sardines too but I avoided them like the plague.

I used to love calves liver, haven't had it in years.  I just had liverwurst the other day.  Loved sardines on crackers with a little mustard.  Spam? eh....a little bit is okay if it's cubed and put into something like scalloped potatoes.

Mom used to put chipped beef  (in the little jar) into a cream gravy over biscuts.

So did my mom!  Shit on a Shingle!  We always used toast.  Does anyone make that anymore?

We must now heap abuse on ColonelCarrots for not liking bacon.  He's not even Jewish, so he has no excuse.

A combo I do not like, but would be heresy to say around here, is pizza and buffalo wings.

.

Much depends on what our parents liked,  we grew up eating Their favorites and we had to learn to eat other things we never had as a kid.

Never had mushrooms as a kid, first time I ate them I had had 3 beers and they were good.

When I moved south was the introduction to Mustered greens , collards, Kale and poke salad.  I was acquainted with spinach and dander lion greens but I all for these foreign greens took some getting use to.

Much depended on how they were cooked the seasoning and prep.
