I would eat any critter if hungry. Have to think that horse meat would be tough.

It is the world view of men who do not have the moral toughness, the spiritual strength to stand up and do single combat with life, who cannot adjust to the reality that the world is not a huge, pink-and-blue, padded nursery in which the lions lie down with the lambs and everyone lives happily ever after."

I would have no reservations against it.  I haven't yet, though.

Back in the early 80's I spent a couple of weeks at Decimomannu Air Base. Just outside of the main gate was a little restaurant that served horse meat steaks and awesome french fries.

I ate lunch there every day, it was delicious.

I've never knowingly ate it.  What does it taste like?  Is it gamey like venison?

It was available during the reign of Obama the Elder (aka Jimmah of Plains, peace be upon him).  I was working in a sweat shop (apparently one of the last before they all moved overseas) and a fellow employee had a great looking horse meat sandwich.  Looked just like lean roast beef. The guy was a former UDT, a few bricks shy, and crazzy as the proverbial shit house rat but I trusted his cullinary instincts and voice that it was a bit stringy and sweet.  He said it was way better than the monkey and water buffalo he ate in Nam.  He had a freaky old lady and was always buzzed.................... :stoner:

I don't hunt but I am up to my hips in hunters so there is no shortage of deer if I wanted it.

But I don't like deer, nor do I like wild rabbit.

The horse that I ate was not gamey in the slightest. To me it tasted like...maybe a flat iron steak or maybe a sirloin. It is juicy but it's not exactly melt in your mouth tender like a medium rare fillet.

I think they probably tenderized it with one of those hammers and tossed it on the grill.

Your not cooking it right! Rare is the key! I bet you like beef that way?

I only tried venison once years ago and didn't like it.  Haven't really had the opportunity to try it since then, as I don't hunt or know anyone who does. But watching some cooking shows prepare it, they say venison is best rare.

I would. I'd try any form of animal. Man I'd love to try tiger or panda before they go extinct.

Venison is the best meat on the planet! As long as you don't over cook it! I can eat it raw! Saying when I kill it and gut it if it ain't gut shot and clean it smells SOOO good!

I've been eating cheap Mexican and Chinese food for years. Yeah, I know it says beef, but when its that cheap, I'm just thankful an animal died to make my meal.

Would you knowingly eat horse meat?

I voted "other" - when I was in Japan, I was invited to someone's house where a spread of food was laid out.  There was jerky there so I grabbed one.  Only after I got through several bites was I told it was horse.  I don't remember finishing it but I don't remember it being bad.  I might try it again.

Several people mentioned venison - I've known several people that suggested i tried what they made and I didn't like it either.  I've had it since and I like it, but not everyone knows how to cook it properly.  Stephan Pyle knows how to make a mean chicken-fried venison steak!

I'm a fan of bison/buffalo, I highly suggest trying it if you haven't.

I've had venison every which way, and have only liked it one time.

That deer was taken down in Iowa; not in SW MO, where your standard deer diet consists of strictly acorns and rocks.

 :lmao:

Venison is ok in chili or sausage that is mixed with pork. I have also had different flavors of venison bratwurst.

I had family and friends that hunted  and I have tried about everything when it comes to wild game. Horse not included.

And seahorse513 would never eat a horse.
