Then-Chief Justice John Marshall observed, “Between a balanced republic and a democracy, the difference is like that between order and chaos.”

John Adams warned in a letter, “Remember democracy never lasts long. It soon wastes, exhausts, and murders itself. There never was a democracy yet, that did not commit suicide.”

What's wrong with Sloppy Joes?

I like Sloppy Joes, too, and if some people want to call that "chili", it's fine by me.

On TV, I've even seen these big Sloppy Joe cooking contests that they call "Chili Cook-Offs", and that's fine.

I'll bet they make some great Sloppy Joes!

But still, as good as Sloppy Joes are, you make chili with kidney beans.

I don't think that Sloppy Joes should be made with chili powder, or other southwest seasonings, like cumin.  Nope.  Also, it's pinto beans, not kidney.  They're just too big and obnoxious.

We had chili with pinto beans when I was a kid.

In WV you choose between two beans, pinto and halfrunner.

We never had the proper kidney beans.

Both kinds of beans. Kidneys and pinto. I like to be fair.

Chili goes good with buttered toast and a couple slabs of cheddar on the side.

and beer.
