air-bags
« on: May 20, 2008, 10:00:14 AM »
Why do air-bags in automobiles stink when they inflate?

Is this on purpose, or is this something natural?

It's really a bad odor, especially up close.

Maybe it's a smelling salts in case you were knocked out by the bag.

I can deal with an odor if it saves my life.

I have never had one go off (knock wood). Must be the combinaton of plastic and whatever fine powder they put in there to make inflate properly.

No, my friends, there’s only one really progressive idea. And that is the idea of legally limiting the power of the government. That one genuinely liberal, genuinely progressive idea — the Why in 1776, the How in 1787 — is what needs to be conserved. We need to conserve that fundamentally liberal idea. That is why we are conservatives. --Bill Whittle

It's natural. The chemical reaction needed to blow the bags as fast as they go off is from a couple of nasty burned smelling chemicals. The nitrogen they produce is harmless which is why they use them.

Air bags are definitely lifesavers. They also don't  beat ya up like they did when they were first out. Buddy of mine way back when was in an accident and the airbag deployed and his face looked like someone used it for a punching bag. I was in an accident a couple months back and the airbag didn't rough me up at all. All the dang powder floating around in my car made me think my car was on fire though. Both front & side airbags deployed.
It is said that branches draw their life from the vine. Each is separate yet all are one as they share one life giving stem . The Bible tells us we are called to a similar union in life, our lives with the life of God. We are incorporated into him; made sharers in his life. Apart from this union we can do nothing.

Imagine what an airbag would do to a passenger riding along with their feet on the dashboard.   :o
