The power of prayer and positive thinking in general
« on: January 08, 2013, 07:06:39 PM »
My wonderful wife and mother of our son is an example of the thread title.

Since March, 2012, she been battling breast cancer. The thoughts and prayers of those that were aware obviously paid off.

Yearly mammogram showed evidence of a small tumor, a biopsy was scheduled within 3 days. As we were discussing the results of the biopsy, they informed us that they had already scheduled an appt. with a surgeon three days from then. The surgeon did an excellent job explaining the situation and my wife's options. She was scheduled for surgery one week after that appt. Her surgery was on Tuesday. She came home on Wednesday evening.

Her post surgery test results showed that there is no evidence of cancer remaining in her body. However, once she healed from the surgery, due to the aggressive nature of her cancer, she was subjected to very agressive chemotherapy to ensure that even the smallest amout of cancer that could possibly be remaining is killed. This was the best possible outcome at that stage of the process. She is now in her third phase of chemo and is responding well to it. Her hair is growing back, she is in Zumba classes, and feels well except for the days after chemo that only occurs every three weeks now. SHe has been told that here condition is the best as possible at his stage of the process. Everything looks good.

Although the process is not over by any means, the rest of it appears to be the least extreme and precautionary.

I thank God that Obamacare was not in place because, the local medical system went into hi-speed overdrive to make what appears to be a success happen quickly. Socialized medicine for such diagnoses has a track record of causing delays that result in death. Jusy think about it, after 2014, the same type people that work at the Bureau of Motor Vehicles will be in control of our health care. Doesn't that scare the crap out of anyone?

I close this post by thanking God and declaring that prayer and positive thinking really do work. Many prayed for my wife. We are confident that her cancer was caught early enough to make the real difference. Her progress is proof of what I have stated.

Prayers and good thoughts for the continued health of your wife and family.

I can't say much but echo the above sentiments.  I would add, thankfully she had her mammogram, and it was caught early.

Matthew 7
7 Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you:

8 For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened.

9 Or what man is there of you, whom if his son ask bread, will he give him a stone?

10 Or if he ask a fish, will he give him a serpent?

11 If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children, how much more shall your Father which is in heaven give good things to them that ask him?

Thanks All for the prayers and well wishes. At this time, I wasn't fishing for them but, they are always accepted and very appreciated.

My main point is that she is an obvious example of the true power of prayer and positive thinking. Except for a few moments during the first phase of chemo, my wife has been very positive. She even joked about it by say, "You aren't going to lose me that easily."

My other main point is that if this had occurred another year or two in the future with Obamacare in place, I'm convinced that we would be making funeral arrangements for my wife as opposed to still making our future plans together.

I'm amazed at her personal strength and ability to perservere. She is truly God's gift to myself and our son.

I agree with your theory about prayer working miracles.  I tried for another kid from 2001 until 2008.  I had miscarriage after miscarriage.  It was not until my son and I started praying every night together and I actually felt the hand of God on my shoulder that I was able to carry two more live births.

Thank you for your story.

May our father continue to Bless your wife and comfort your family during these days of healing.

I would not be here if not for the power of prayer.  I know.

Good news for sure. Prayer and positive thinking is the answer to many of our problems. My mom had breast cancer in the 60's and then in the 70's had another form of cancer elsewhere. She lived to be 93. Hope everything works out well for you and your wife.

Philippians 4:6-7 do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

It is said that branches draw their life from the vine. Each is separate yet all are one as they share one life giving stem . The Bible tells us we are called to a similar union in life, our lives with the life of God. We are incorporated into him; made sharers in his life. Apart from this union we can do nothing.

I thank others for providing Biblical justification for my claim about the power of prayer. I didn't need it but other readers may.

Update.

My wife completed chemo in mid-June and has been given the best prognosis possible at this point in the process. She is doing so well that she has not been prescribed any follow on medication that tends to be given after chemo. She is now in a surveillance mode where she has blood tests every 3-months, Port flushing every 6 weeks, and mammograms every 6 months. They will probably leave her port in for at least one to two years in the event of a return of her cancer. This basically means that she will be visiting the oncology center every 6 weeks until it is removed. The port is a foreign object that tend to collect tissue that can gum it up. The flushing keeps it in good working order.

I thank everyone for their prayers and positive thoughts. My wife has maintained her own prayer schedule throughout her ordeal and has been a rock. She is one tough little woman. God has truly blessed me by bringing her into my life.

Thanks Folks. We definitely have a different outlook on our future.

This may sound like the worst moment to mention this but, I still firmly believe that if she had been diagnosed after 0bamacare is in full operation, we would be making her funeral arrangements at this same point in the process. The speed that the local medical group started attacking this disease was almost blinding. That won't happen with another group of bureaucrats inserted into the process with the sole purpose of finding ways to say NO and delay treatment.
