Sleepless nights and early mornings
« on: December 18, 2012, 09:29:42 PM »
Wife is having trouble getting to sleep each night since the baby was born so any natural cures that can help her? She does not want medicine and lactose intolerant so warm milk is out. She is averaging around 4 hours of sleep if she is lucky and the princess wakes her in the middle of it for her 2Am feedings.
I told her I would ask here since the doctor wants her to quit breast feeding and take a small dose of sleeping medication.

The only sleeping pills I'm familiar with is melatonin.  It's supposed to be "natural" but I wouldn't recommend it for anyone that is breasfeeding.

I have a couple of hypnosis/meditation apps on my iPhone that I've used to help myself fall asleep.  I have trouble thinking when I'm stressed, thoughts just keep running through my head, and they've helped.  They also helped me adjust to working nights and sleeping days.  Just an idea that she could try.

Some that I use are Relax and Sleep Well by Glenn Harold and Sleep Easily Meditation by Shazzie.  Both were free apps if I'm not mistaken.

A simple thing I do if my mind won't shut down is just count 1-2  with my breathing.  1 on the inhale, and 2 on the exhale.

That or I do multiplication and division problems in my head.

Chamomile tea. It works, and is far safer than any pill.

If she doesn't quit breastfeeding to take medication, I'd recommend her trying melatonin first to see if that helps.  And alcohol is useless in this regard, in case anyone doesn't know.

I do kind of the same thing, but count each breath.  I very rarely make it past 20.

If I just count then my mind still wanders off, just counting 1-2 requires more concentration for me.

A small handful of M&M's works as well as anything for me. I can't take sleeping pills...they hype me up, then I do a severe crash about 6-8 hrs later.  :bawl:

She needs to lay down whenever baby does. Even if she doesn't sleep, she will at least rest some.

When my kids were babies, I kept shifting their feedings until I did one at midnight or a little later and they would sleep till about 4-5, I'd feed them and go right back to sleep until they woke up about 9-10. It made a huge difference in the amount of sleep I was getting.
Just hand over the chocolate...back away slowly...far away....and you won't get hurt....

Save the Earth... it's the only planet with chocolate.

"My therapist told me the way to achieve true inner peace is to finish what I start. So far I've finished two bags of M&M's and a chocolate cake. I feel better already." – Dave Barry

A balanced diet is chocolate in both hands.

Might want to try Kava Kava.

There was a "scare" about it, but I found this:

“The national budget must be balanced. The public debt must be reduced; the arrogance of the authorities must be moderated and controlled. Payments to foreign governments must be reduced, if the nation doesn't want to go bankrupt. People must again learn to work, instead of living on public assistance.”

The unobtainable is unknown at Zombo.com
