People of a certain age will instantly recognize the Scottish-American uncle of Donald Duck, Scrooge McDuck, the world's richest person, who swims through 3 cubic acres of cash,
and who is the ultimate "I did build it myself, and I made my fortune square!" capitalist.

I love Duck Tales.. That was a good cartoon.

Many of the animated plots were taken from the classic comic book plots from the late 1940's and '50's by Carl Barks.  (...who, despite the rhyming nature of the names, was the antithesis of Karl Marx!  The honest, hard-working capitalism of Scrooge came from Barks' own views, as well as the idea that wealth brought specific problems and did not make one carefree.)

It is said that branches draw their life from the vine. Each is separate yet all are one as they share one life giving stem . The Bible tells us we are called to a similar union in life, our lives with the life of God. We are incorporated into him; made sharers in his life. Apart from this union we can do nothing.

Devil Dog has been a favorite Marine expression since the bloody Battle of Belleau Wood, a ferocious World War I engagement near Paris that also left the Corps with two of its most endearing quotes. “Retreat? Hell, we just got here,” exclaimed Capt. Lloyd W. Williams, as the French fell back. Similarly, then-Gunnery Sgt. Dan Daly refused to let his men give up, shouting his motivating “Come on, you sons of bitches, do you want to live forever?”

As legend has it, this determination to win led one German prisoner to tell his captors the Marines reminded him of “Teufelshunde,” a German term translated as “devil dogs.”

Lately, reactions to the Corps’ longtime nickname generally depend on the age of the Marine listening.

My age is 66, so I guess I consider myself "Old Corps".  :-)

I started with the Distinguishing Unit Insignia from the 505th Parachute Infantry Regiment so as not tohave the Caveman. Currently I have an image of a sniper getting ready to take his shot. I have a feeling that like his target not expecting to be shot, none of the democratics who post at democraticunderground.com are going to expect the outcome of this election.
