Have rice cooker. Have rice. What can I do with it?
« on: September 13, 2012, 10:43:50 AM »
Got some uncooked rice yesterday. Time to experiment with rice.
from what I understand one cup of rice will fluff up into 3 cups cooked.

I was at HyVee last night and didn't see any. Are there packets of rice flavors i could use? do I use them in the cooker or afterwards?

do you do anything special with your rice?

Chicken paste and saffron for paella.  Plain white for jambalaya.

My paella is basically an excuse to eat a bunch of meat.

chicken
beef
shrimp
scallops
peas
onions (diced 1/2-inch)

Simple...   Check with spousal unit/significant other/culinary-talented female fiend.   :-)

White rice is not only for Jambalaya, but Rice Dressing too...   (Hint: Do not fix these dishes in the oooker, but add the rice to the other ingredients in the pot  on the stove ...
Don't get stuck on stupid...

Fried rice is quick and easy to make once you have the cooked rice

Your rice cooker, she should know some recipes.  Send her to the store.

And, she should have come with instructions, that sometimes includes recipes.   :-)

I am happy to see you got a rice cooker, and aren't using your microwave to cook it.  I will make it in a pretty big batch to use in all different things, like stuffed bell peppers, soups, casseroles, like broccoli-cheese.

I think you need a cook book.

I'm just looking for a paper packet of flavor I can mix in. Maybe something simple I can microwave with this.

Purchase some bouillon:  Tomato, vegetable, beef, and chicken.  Use individually and sparingly to taste.

(Knorr makes cilantro cubes if you are so inclined)

Bouillon is found on a shelf near the broths, which are next to the soups.  Just an FYI, Mr. Mann.

I prefer paste.  It's a little harder to find but it isn't loaded with salt like some bullions are.  Comes in little plastic tubs.

With rice the salt is a plus.

Paste. That is completely new to me. What do you do? take a spoonful and mix it with the finished rice?

Mix it with the water for the rice.  You're just going to make a broth with it.

Are you talking about the Knorr products?

Thanks. Well I'm gonna make plain old boring rice tonight. 1 cup makes 3 cups after cooking.
really dumb question. I mix how many spoonfuls of butter? One? One per cup? Any? None?

I'm not sure who makes them.  They're in the same section of the grocery store.

We only put water and rice in our rice cooker.  Anything else is added after to flavor.

OK, I unpacked everything. Read the instructions. Hey, wouldn't ya know - there is a recipe booklet inside, including rice pudding! Pudding is always good.

OK the pudding wants 2 14 oz cans of coconut milk whipped cream. I have NEVER heard of that! Have y'all ever bumped into coconut milk whipped cream?
