There is unrest among the DUmmies over the Chicago teacher strike
« on: September 10, 2012, 02:26:06 PM »
In this thread, just one of several on the topic, there is gnashing of teeth and name-calling, one DUmmy accused of being a scab.

1 question for those supporting the chicago teachers [View all]

how do you propose the school district pay the teachers what they are demanding?
you cant raise taxes, the tax rate in chicago is already astronomical.
there is simply no more money
One post that stood out for me was this one by Sabrina1, aka protector/defender of Gnads

131. So you don't like teachers? Maybe it's because NCLB is a failure. Bush's NCLB is one of
worst 'educational' programs in the history of Education. Any teacher trying to work within that system has their hands tied when it comes to actually educating their students. You seem very uninformed about this subject.
The reason this stood out for me is because here she/he/Pat is, blaming NCLB on Bush.  They will not admit/accept/acknowledge that Ted Kennedy co-sponsored this bill,  that it is generally considered to be his brainchild, and that any failure in this act/bill should be part of Kennedy's legacy, and not Bush's.  Bush merely signed it, he did not author it.
This too shall pass.

Damn it, this needs pointed out constantly:

Actually, Vast Teddy wrote this bill, going clear back to the 1970s.

All those years Democrats dominated Congress, they wouldn't touch it.

But then alas George Bush decided to be a nice guy, wanting to get along with Vast Teddy.....

This all happened the summer of 2001, and was quickly forgotten when 9-11 occurred.

"No Child Left Behind" was Vast Teddy's bill, not George Bush's, damn it.

Sorry for the cussing, but--

That's average. I think a starting teacher in Chitago gets about $55,000 plus benefits and tenure in two years.

I read the highest paid teacher topped out at a mere $118,000 per year. The thing that kills is for every failure of a huge wildly obese teacher you see there are 4-6 retired ones behind them. They retire at 55 and get their latest pay as a pension, and free health care insurance (Cadillac), and get COLAs. It cannot be sustained.

I predict that the strike will end over the coming weekend with Twinkles saying that he HAD to cave to every demand they had. This is all Kabuke to provide some cover for deadfish to cave and maybe go beyond the greedy teachers demands.  The problem is there is nobody negotiating for the taxpayer when democrat party members in good standing are in charge.

Top salary for teachers in a school district near me (burbs of Philly) $98,222.00 THEN you add in the benefits and top compensation is $131,590.17.

That's what really burns me about State, municipal, and school pensions.  Federal civil service and military pensions are both based on BASIC PAY RATE for your grade and years of service at the time of retirement (There are some differences in terminology and method between the two, but the idea is the same).  The idea that you can count vacation or sick time you cashed in the last year, overtime, any special hazard pay, travel reimbursement, as if that was your actual standard yearly pay for the retirement calculation is a damn' outrage!

The kids should be forced to report to school and just stay in a classroom all day without a teacher, they'd probably learn more.

Well, the TV News reported that they are going to feed the free lunch kids while the teachers are out on strike..

Looks like the teachers have been getting free lunches too.

Not a 2% raise, a 16% raise.

You want a 16% raise, get a job that pays 16% more than the one you've got.

Since when does having a government job entitle you to unlimited access to public funds?  If they don't have enough money to live on, maybe they should be protesting those politicians in Cook County that keep raising their taxes and the cost of living.

Rush was saying on his show this morning (lurking DUmmies, these are facts, not talking points, look it up) that just slightly more than 50% of public school kids in Chicago. The private NON union schools have a graduation rate of 90%.

I hate to admit it but I knee jerked my reaction on this because I do LOATHE public unions. After cooling off and thinking on it, this is just another distraction to keep the public's eye off of what Obama, economic super genius, accomplished in August:

96,000 jobs created.
370,000 people gave up looking for a job.
22,000 businesses ceased to exist.
176,000 new food stamp moochers.
32,000 new SSDI approvals.

If teachers unions need to thrown under the SCOAMF's bus they will be thrown under SCOAMF's bus. If you do not think that this was coordinated with a democrat mayor, a democrat teachers union, a horrendous convention, and a terrible August under policies that 0bama will not change in 0bama 2.0, then I have a bridge, a building, and a national park to sell you.
