Most things I used to eat that I do not now are based on taste.

There used to be these things called "pizza burgers" which were like a hamburger with some sort of pizza sauce on the inside.

As a very young child I loved these things. When I rediscovered them as a young adult, I eagerly tried one only to discover that must only taste good to humans under 5 and dogs.

But I don't really dwell on it.

When I was very young I used to eat formula and then Gerber's baby food.

I was raised by Conservative honey badgers. Honey badger milk and the flesh of DUmmies made me into the Dog I am today.

Pizza burgers and taco burgers- school food. My favorite school food was chili and cinnamon rolls. I went to Moose's high school a few years ago for a fundraiser and had "school" chili and cinnamon rolls. I agree with you, Duke: some tastes are best left in the past.

Corned beef hash is terrific if you make it yourself, but to eat that stuff in a can, well, you might as well buy a can of Alpo and fry it up--tastes the same but much healthier.

Corned beef on rye, with some swiss cheese and sauerkraut, and some deli mustard.

AKA a Reuben sandwich. Food of the gods.

The only soda I drink is Dr Pepper. Mr. Pibb if I have to. I'm more of an iced tea guy.

Canned hash is pretty damn good.

Alpo smells so good my mouth waters, but I've never tried it.

It is said that branches draw their life from the vine. Each is separate yet all are one as they share one life giving stem . The Bible tells us we are called to a similar union in life, our lives with the life of God. We are incorporated into him; made sharers in his life. Apart from this union we can do nothing.

Fry up some canned hash till it is crispy, and put some eggs on top.

I will not eat sauerkraut
or cole slaw,
But even though both of them are made of cabbage, I like small amounts of fresh cabbage in my salads occasionally.

Scrapple is something I eat only once or twice a month now. Cooked "Pennsylvania Dutch" style--dredged through seasoned flour and fried in an iron pan is best. There's an art to keeping scrapple in one piece.

As a kid, I LOVED TastykakeTM lemon pies. They're a very rare treat, now.

Yes, being in the Philly area does have some advantages -- LOVE scrapple, cooked just as you've written but limit myself to only a couple of times a year, if that.

Taskykake PB Tandy Takes were my favorites as a kid along with Ring Dings.  Haven't had either in years *sigh*

And I have to really watch it on cheese consumption -- Lactaid doesn't always help  :bawl:

   :panic:  Me too, Tots!

I've never tried the canned hash.  Here's what my mom used to do:  After a Sunday dinner of roast beef, potatoes & carrots that had cooked in the beef broth, she'd take the leftovers and run them through the Foley foodmill.  Bake the results in a casserole dish.  Man, that was good.

Things you used to eat as a kid, but don't now:  Creamed chipped beef on toast (SOS).  Sugar.

I still love SOS.  We didn't have a foley, but we had a meat grinder.  We would grind up the leftover roast beef, or ham, for roast beef/ham salad.  Underwood shoulda paid my Grandmother for her recipe.  They would still be in business.

Snow peas only -- and yes, my poor Mom scarred me for life on those also, Tots.

I can STILL vividly remember her bringing out a whole cow's tongue on a platter when I was about 9 or 10 -- I think I actually ran from the table!   :panic:

Dehydrated, reconstituted, boiled, and mashed peas.  Tastes like a bowl of warm vomit.

I still think it was a torture device invented by the British and not actually meant to be eaten.  I notice my mom doesn't make them anymore since she has nobody to inflict them upon.

"Mashed (mushy) peas"

They're dried when you buy them.  Reconstitute them in water, boil them, mash, and serve.  You have to try them once just to experience how awful they are.
