Rebuttal for annoying liberal talking point
« on: August 15, 2012, 08:41:37 PM »
"They're voting against their own interests"

We've all heard it, libs beside themselves that anyone would vote GOP except for the 1%. I see it regularly at the DUmp, other forums, Facebook. newspaper comments sections- basically everywhere. It really bugs me because it exposes their selfishness while appealing to others sense of greed.

It's fits the liberal mold perfectly- a trite one-liner that easily fits on a bumper sticker.

Liberals can't grasp that the majority of people don't have a desire to be another Dem-Socialist country the likes of Europe. For me, I appreciate the uniqueness of our land of opportunity. You can build as much wealth as your ambition and hard work allows you. Just because some don't achieve vast wealth and success should we toss aside that great American ideal by punishing success through wealth confiscation and redistribution. That's not my definition of fairness.

My replies typically are "It might not be in my immediate best interest, by I'm not that selfish to deny my children or future generations the ability to capitalize on the opportunity every American has". That just seems to lack the zing of a good rebuttal. Paul Ryan said in his VP acceptance speech that "We believe in equal opportunity, not equal outcomes" or something of that nature. That's good stuff right there.

So help me out. How do you respond to to that left-wing talking point?  :hammer:

Unlike most leftists, liberals and Democrats, conservatives have more than just one interest.  They're only interest evidently is in how much money they can receive from Uncle Sam.  Conservatives are quite willing to work for their own money and have mulitple interests: care of the poor, protection of the unborn, economic fairness (no one should be robbed by Uncle Sam), reduced government expense, free speech and religious rights, upholding the Constitution...(to name a very few of the top concerns.)

I have had a few discussions with Democrats in my workplace...the 2 that are/were most vocal both finally had their "last word" on the subject of Republican or Democrat..."Well, I don't care as long as I get MINE."  That defines the left...Mine, MINE, MINE!!!!!

When asked I always say:

"Oh, I could NEVER vote for a democrat.  I grew up in a family with a long line of solid committed democrats.  I KNOW how racists and hateful democrats are.  I could NEVER vote for anyone associated with the party that organized the Ku Klux Klan.  Good Lord NO!  And I was around in 1964.  I know the only reason we have a civil rights act is because the Republican leadership at the time stood up to those awful racists in congress like Al Gore, Sr.  NO, No way.  I wanna go to Heaven one day.  I could NEVER vote for a democrat."
