With Gas Prices Expected To Drop Below $3, Republicans Suddenly Silent On Obama’s Role

By Rebecca Leber on Jun 25, 2012 at 2:59 pm

Experts predict average gas prices may fall below $3 this fall after dropping 14 cents in two weeks. When prices hit a record high, Republicans attributed sole responsibility to President Obama, even though there is no evidence that factors like drilling impact what consumers pay.

Just two months ago, Republicans said Obama shouldered the blame for rising gas costs, and that only he had the “key” to lower gas prices:

Mitt Romney, March 18, 2012: “He gets full credit or blame for what’s happened in this economy, and what’s happened to gasoline prices under his watch, and what’s happened to our schools, and what’s happened to our military forces. All these things are his responsibility while he’s president.”

House Speaker John Boehner (R-OH), April 6, 2012: “The president holds the key to addressing the pain Ohioans are feeling at the gas pump and moving our nation away from its reliance on foreign energy. My question for the president is: what are you waiting for?”

Boehner, April 6, 2012: “The president’s own policies to date have made matters worse and driven up gas prices.”

Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY), Feb. 28 2012: “This President will go to any length to drive up gas prices and pave the way for his ideological agenda.”

Sen. John Barrasso (R-WY), March 13, 2012: Obama is “fully responsible for what the American public is paying for gasoline.”

Are Republicans now reversing their rhetoric and giving Obama credit for falling gas prices? Of course not.

Former Virginia Sen. George Allen, who is running to reclaim his old seat, is another lawmaker who has misled on the gas prices. Last month, ThinkProgress reported that Allen is pushing a graphic that not only compares gas prices to an artificially low amount, but lists a “current” price from April, even though Virginia gas prices are now more than 40 cents lower per gallon.

Obama’s policies haven’t changed since April: the Keystone XL pipeline has not been built, drilling hasn’t drastically changed, and the same regulations are in place. Yet gas prices have fallen. Economics says he isn’t responsible, either way.

I still recall all the praise that DU bestowed upon Bush when gas prices fell in 2008. Oh wait they still bitched and moaned about something.

3. Here's the REAL reason why they're staying quiet

Forbes.com, 4/17/2012: President Obama unveiled a plan Tuesday to increase regulatory oversight of oil markets to limit the “illegal manipulation, fraud, and market rigging” that have contributed to gas price increases. Citing many Americans’ pain at the pump, the President asked Congress for an additional $52 million for the CFTC to clamp down on speculators...

Obama also called for harsher civil and criminal penalties for manipulation in key energy markets. Fines would be increased to $10 million, from $1 million currently, along with “a new toughened penalty structure for market manipulation in energy markets.”

In short, regulation WORKS.

Amazing the same guy that just a month ago couldn't do anything about it, figured out a way to bring them down.  :whatever:
Just wait until the EPA is done with regulating fracking, you thought gas prices were high now, wait until our supply is cut even further.

I may not lock my doors while sitting at a red light and a black man is near, but I sure as hell grab on tight to my wallet when any democrats are close by.

They drop, all hail obama. They rise, say that there is nothing a President can do about gas prices; blame bush; blame the speculators; blame oil companies; blame toto the dog; but never blame Obama. I said that he will cause the prices to go down, and then call for all to praise him. It won't make people vote for him because they know as soon as he gets re-elected the prices will shoot right back up to $4.00 a gallon.

$4.00 a gallon will just be the starting point...European prices anyone?

Anything good, 0bama's fault.

Anything bad, someone else did it.

Been this way since he was elected.

These are traits of a sociopath.
When you are the beneficiary of someone’s kindness and generosity, it produces a sense of gratitude and community.

When you are the beneficiary of a policy that steals from someone and gives it to you in return for your vote, it produces a sense of entitlement and dependency.

Why the hell would anyone need to say anything? Can anyone tell me what 0bama had to do with this? The only time a president can influence gas prices is when the release some of our reserves. They have no ****ing brains. Seriously, how do these people manage to get through the day without killing themselves?

Another way to influence gas prices is through the EPA, an EPA that wants to crucify oil companies will make prices necessarily skyrocket, an EPA that uses common sense approaches that doesn't destroy the environment nor the oil companies will bring about decent prices. The idiots on the left claim we don't care about clean air and water, but we drink that water and breathe that air, so we want them clean, however we don't want unnecessary regulations that don't do a damn thing but cripple oil companies.

They can also affect prices by opening up new areas to drilling like President Bush did in 2008.

We were assured that Obama has nothing to do with gas prices or the economy.

Strangely, I recall he blamed President Bush for both gas prices and the economy. Go figure...

Nice try DUmmies.  If you want to know why gas prices are falling, wait 'til you see the direction the unemployment number goes at the end of this week.

I'd love to know WHO if anyone with two functional brain cells is saying that the average price of gas is going below $3/gal anytime soon.

And for the record, DUmmies: AAA national average on 1/20/09--$1.81/gallon.  Suck it.  Suck it long and hard.

I think it was CBS NEWS this morning that said S.C. has the lowest average gas prices in the nation and that it is the only one below $3.

Love me some red state hell....suck it blue state DUmmies.... :lmao:

My God.  The stupid.......it hurts......

Lissen up, DUmmies.  The price is falling (Let me know if I am going to fast) because demand is falling in almost all the developed nations and is not being made up by the developing nations.  This is due to?

Crappy global economy!  There ya go.

Which is a large, if not the largest, reason why gas prices took a dump in 2008, although Bush opening up drilling helped SOMEWHAT.  However, Obama shipping all our deep water rigs to Brazil pretty much cut our own throats.

And truth be told, DUmmies, the increase in domestic production in the last couple of years is due to BUSH, not Obama.  However, we're still drilling domestically at about 1/2 our peak of 1970.  That would be our domestic production is roughly on par with what we were doing back in about 1948.

With Gas Prices Expected To Drop Below $3, Republicans Suddenly Silent On Obama’s Role

I know, you're all shocked!!!

Hold on here, babbleon primitive.  If Bush were still in office and the same thing was happening, would you be saying these things, or would you be claiming he's in cahoots with big oil to lower the prices prior to an election?

I know, rhetorical question.

You blamed Bush when gas when up and down, and we're doing the same thing to Dear Leader.  Maybe you and your fellow idiots should have thought it through when you were saying it to see if by doing so there were potential problems down the road if the roles were reversed.  Do you do that?

I know, rhetorical question.

A President can also influence matters by not getting in the way of oil companies exploring and drilling and increased oil supply in the US (Keystone pipeline).

Opening up much more federal land for exploration and drilling, ending the Gulf moratorium (currently an illegal defiance of a judge's ruling, but so what else is new with Obama? Another day, another law broken or ignored), and getting the hell out of the way of the pipeline would have immediate and lasting effects on oil and gas prices---immediate because the futures market would take notice, and how!

I suppose President Scheisskopf COULD take some credit for the recent and likely transitory small decline in gas prices, if he wants to take credit for helping to wreck the world's economy.

Took son's girlfriend up to visit him at Boy Scout camp today. Passed through Spartanburg, S.C. and right down town was a station with gas for $2.75/9. All the others I saw in that area were $2.84/9 and up a few cents.
