Both my Father and my oldest brother saw combat. My Brother did twice in Vietnam and in Desert Storm. They were both happy as hell to just get back home. My Father got a good welcome home after being returned from Europe as a POW of the Germans My Brother of course had to wait for his after Desert Storm. I don't think I'm anymore a hero or want anyone to think so but those that have gone into a war zone and fought deserve more then what they are getting from the left. Despite what the news wants all of us the think the military isn't a bunch of thugs. The left lovesto call for troops to frag thier leaders and one that we know of on DU openlt bragged about wanting to spit on the faces of people far better then he.

How about you members over at DU step up and tell some returning troops just what you are posting over there right now. I'm pretty certain that you may discover that having your insurance paid up might be the best thing you have done in years. And when you wake up from the coma you find youself in feel free to post about it on DU. Most of us don't view ourselves as heroes.  Those that come in wanting to be one on purpose either get disillusioned rather quickly or they die trying or both.

Congratulations on sticking your neck out for the Freeper trolls and idiots jump into the circle jerk mode to deride what I've known for years: Military service is not only unnecessary but incredibly dangerous to the security and sanctity of the world.

What we SHOULD do is to stand down our military except for coast guard and other border protection (NOT "patrol") duties. We don't need military in other parts of the world to act in our unilateral efforts.

What should be done is to start migrating our offense-related military, including naval ships, elite forces, and all major aircraft, to the United Nations, where a consortium of peaceful, progressive nations can take the controls, and ensure that our military is ONLY used for defense and humanitarian purposes. There is no reason for ANY one nation to unilaterally decide to invade or kill based upon its republicanist leadership's whims.

To that end, we should create a worldwide referendum and begin to migrate the US military to the UN, and stand down all military that's not needed. Pronto.

Because we all know that the UN has a stellar track record when it comes to peace keeping troops.

Yep Amazing how those missions are ok but when you need to really drop the hammer on those that took down a couple of buildings with airplanes or kept violating the UN ceasefire agreement then they can't wait to put the brakes on it.
