A heartbreaking scene at lunch

Here in the Twin Cities we have "skyways" - second story connectors between the buildings downtown that permit us Minnesotans to get around without going outdoors in the cold weather.

I headed out of my building, going to pick up something to eat, and in the skyway between my office and the next block was a woman I guessed to be in her mid-late 30s. She was clean, dressed in a winter jacket and dark slacks. She held a neatly printed sign that said

Husband died
Three kids to support
Anything will help.

I walked about half a block past her with a growing sadness. I turned around, went back to her and pressed a five-dollar bill in her palm and said "Good luck." I was beginning to get teary. She looked at me with an expression of abject gratefulness and said "thank you."

I am financially a bit strapped myself these days with a move impending at the edge of the month, but there was no way I could in good conscience deny her what I could give. Smaller lunches for a couple of days won't hurt me in the least. But maybe her kids will have something decent to eat tonight. At least I hope so.

I hope you didn't dislocate your shoulder by patting yourself on the back.  :whatever:

I can't count how many times I've given someone asking for money a couple of bucks, yet I don't run to cc and post about it.

I may not lock my doors while sitting at a red light and a black man is near, but I sure as hell grab on tight to my wallet when any democrats are close by.

Those pills cure everything...or so I'm told.

Using the birth control pills, she could have had indiscriminate sex several times a day. Only not run a sham. Be honest about it and just accept cash.
Come to think of it, unions do create jobs. Companies have to hire two workers to do the work of one.

SSB you are on fire!

I agree as far as I can tell getting those free contraceptives would cure al of society's and the poor woman's problems.

I wonder how that DUmmie feels knowing she probably clears more in one hour than he does all day on the fryolator?

And that she isn't paying taxes on her "earnings"?  Not very patriotic, if you were to ask "Plugs" Biden.

I guess someone needs to inform this woman about Social Security Survivors Benefits for the kids.  Would keep her from begging for money.  oh, who was watching the kids?
You see, I don't care you how feel.  I really don't.  More importantly, neither does anyone else.  Only about 200 people on a planet of 7 billion actually care about your feelings, and that's if you're lucky.  The sooner you grasp this lesson, the better off you will be.  And since almost no one gives a damn what you do, say, think, or feel, appealing to your feelings when you encounter differences of opinion is not only illogical, but useless.

Then "testify" before a sham congressional committee hearing.
There were only two options for gender. At last count there are at least 12, according to libs. By that standard, I'm a male lesbian.

That's the kind of sob story the DUmpmonkeys used to post as evidence of the economic abyss into which we'd been steered by President Bush.

Of course it was during a time when normal people were enjoying unprecedented prosperity.

Now that many people are having difficulty, with a Kenyan democrat in charge, you'd think the DUmmies would want to keep it quiet.

I don't trust panhandlers. They lie to get money.

I would want to see the obituary and the birth certificates.

Better yet, I would just give the money to the Salvation Army since it is their area of expertise.

I wouldn't bet on it.  Five bucks doesn't buy shit ever since Obama and Bernanke fired up the printing press.  Fuel costs so much nowadays that anything that needs transported, such as food, has skyrocketed (perhaps necessarily?)  I saw a jumbo box of Kraft mac&cheese at the store, but I think was in the $6-7 range, so she's SOL.

Notice how he throws in there that he'll be paring down his own lunches in order to afford this generous gift of his largesse.  What a douchebag.  These people are insufferable.  Who would want to be like them, or associate with them?

Maybe because it sounds like it came from a bad novel?  That and the use of the phrase "abject gratefulness."  A bad Dickensian-era ripoff novel.

My son had a friend in college that would go home during breaks and beg on the street for money.  He did it as a joke the first time but it quickly turned into something that was hard to turn down.

He made sometimes $300 a day.  He knew it was wrong but he did it anyway. Today he's a doctor.

2 “So when you give to the needy, do not announce it with trumpets, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and on the streets, to be honored by others. Truly I tell you, they have received their reward in full. 3 But when you give to the needy, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, 4 so that your giving may be in secret. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.

Nah, we clutch at our pearls. :rotf:
Then-Chief Justice John Marshall observed, “Between a balanced republic and a democracy, the difference is like that between order and chaos.”

John Adams warned in a letter, “Remember democracy never lasts long. It soon wastes, exhausts, and murders itself. There never was a democracy yet, that did not commit suicide.”

I can't count the times I've given someone (or tried to) the food they said they were seeking rather than the cash .... only to be turned down for some inane reason.  Again, asked for cash.

Most of them are losers and it's easy to tell when you try to give them what they ask for if it's something other than money.

Besides that, some people use it as an occupation! I'm not sayin' this gal is doin' that, but boy, if want to tug at the heart strings of decent and civilized folk, she sure picked the right topic!

We had a guy that used to stand right at the exit of the interstate at the first stoplight. Alocal news station was doin' a story on the homeless. They followed this guy and found out, he was changin' clothes right outside his Mercedes then goin out and soliciting for money.

After a hard day of standin' at this off-ramp. he would walk to his car, (which was strategically parked well away from the action, I might add), and he would change back into clean Levis, and a clean T-shirt.

The news crew then followed him home to a $200,000 fancy abode. $200,000 grand at the time was top 'o the line in Spokane at the time!

Needless to say, they blew his scam all to hell, but they couldn't charge the leach with a damn thing! They figured he was makin' about $3,000/mo! I heard he did end up havin' a pretty tough time with the IRS!
I'm the guy your mother warned you about!
