New member Intro and some thoughts
« on: March 01, 2012, 06:00:12 PM »
I'm a new member.  I have lurked for a while but decided to join to share a few thoughts and a fictional story I created about the making of a president just like Obama.

I started out being a bit of an activist during the Republican primaries in 2008.  Immigration was the hot topic and I was concerned the Democrats could use the promise of amnesty to buy votes and make themselves a permanent majority party.  I was also concerned that a harsh tone from the right could drive the Hispanic votes to the Democrats.  On top of that, I was not pleased with the proposals from Bush and McCain.  The part I did not approve of was the pathway to citizenship.  One point I was trying to make at the time was to consider something that I never heard discussed.  If the illegals were given any kind of permanent status, including citizenship, what would happen when they could no longer work?  Who would fund their retirement?  Even people with good jobs are concerned about their retirement.  What would happen to these new citizens or permanent residents after they could no longer work.  Increase taxes for all to cover them?

I came up with a plan that I thought was reasonable and would appeal to a broad percentage of the population.  Not to get into that now - the point I wanted to make was it was extremely difficult to get my idea out there.  I spoke with a the campaign manager of one of the candidates, and also spoke with a staffer to a Senator who took a strong position on immigration, but it was difficult for the idea to get any airing.  Messages to several conservative media personalities went unanswered.  I assumed it was all due to enormous quantities of mail they must get.

-----------------------

Now to the present day...   I have been, like am sure most or all of you, a combination of amazed and outraged that a president would willfully torpedo the economy with massive debt increases, weaken us internationally, and decimate our military.  I often asked myself, why would someone, having been elected to the highest office in the land, do such things?  I was also struck that much of his background was not known, and wondered what the impact of that could potentially be to the country.

Knowing how difficult it is to get ideas out there, I decided to come up with a fictional story on the creation of a president just like Obama.  While the story is fiction, many aspects and character traits are real.  Even though I am not driven by all kinds of conspiracy theories, I thought this was a good way to raise questions about what might really drive Obama.  Even if he is all that he claims to be, his actions to damage the country bring up legitimate questions.

I created a website for this fictional story.  I hope it is ok for me to post the URL.  I don't intend to make any money off the story, I just want people to think about things they should have thought about before he was elected the first time.  If you do read it and consider it worth the read, appreciate passing on the address http://american-path.org

Thanks very much,

John

Especially in the bitch-slap obama thread IIRC.
