RIP Jon Lord

How come?  I don't know too much about him, although I did hear that he had no family.  I don't know why I thought that was odd, but I did.

I thought he gave a credible performance (for 70s vintage sitcoms anyway). He was slightly manic, which is what his character was supposed to be like anyway and probably slightly insane.

Who else would call his wife "Wheezie" as a nickname for "Louise"? Gotta be slightly nuts for that.  :lmao:

And Helen Willis is (was, she passed away) the mother of Lenny Kravitz.

That's all The Jefferson's trivia I know.

That's certainly more than I know.

Seriously, Sherman Hemsley made enough out of his character George Jefferson to spin off and have his own highly successful (for a sitcom) show for 11 seasons. That either speaks poorly of the American people (American Idol anyone?  :whatever: ) or it speaks well of the actors and the writing.

I'd say it's the actors and the writing.

I always hated that show because he called white people all kinds of names and the audience laughed about it when if the shoe was on the other foot, well you know.

It was a sign of the times, Gina. And, it was a NEON SIGN for producer Norman Lear, a card-carrying liberal who felt that the black man was being held down.

So he put together shows like All in the Family (Carroll O'Conner shown to be a racist, bigot, and all-round dufus); Sanford and Son (black man and his son tryin' to make good in this worl'), and The Jeffersons, along with a few that I've forgotten about.

You might recall that one of the signatory developments of The Jeffersons was the portrayal of a white man (character name Tom Willis) and his black wife Helen. That may have been one of the first TV castings of an interracial couple between a white man and a black woman.

If you watch some of the reruns, the N-word was flying around that show. I remember one about a KKK meeting in the building.
