I would've been happy with a dot-matrix (?--not sure if the correct term) printer, just so long as it worked.
Hell, man.  You should have said something.  I have three of them sitting in the closet here. And ribbons are certainly cheaper than ink.

I know a lot more about WAN networks than I do about LAN networks.

It worked!!  Windows 7 is pretty cool......when the laptop scanned and "saw" the printer, I selected connect, and Win 7 automatically went to the MS website and found the correct driver (HP 3000e) installed it, and printed a test page......I'm impressed.

Windows 7 is nice.

I wasted an hour and a half today trying to get a "wireless" Lexmark printer to connect to a home network.  I gave up and told the guy to replace his six-year-old router.

I've had that happen to me a couple of times, and the solution in each case was to change the RF channel on the router.....some wireless printers (I guess) are "frequency sensitive"......I just kept changing channels until I found one that connected.

The user didn't have the configuration information for the router and since it wasn't provided by the company, I figured I'd let him work it out.

Every now and then I will de-burst and de-collate a bunch of the pin feed paper I have from the old days.  I use it for junk printing.  (I have managed to dispose of all the old printers but I do still have a 5 1/4 floppy).

Of course when I worked for Uncle we used paper by the skid.   :-)   Every part on a sub generated its own piece(s) of paper and there are lots of parts.

Awesome.  I'm glad I could help in some small way.

when the ink is gone im getting something new

How old is it, and what's the model number/ I've never had an Epson go out on me. My current printer (I gave the previous one [CX6600???? I can't remember] to our grand daughter for her to use in college) is an Epson Workforce 630 Printer/Copier/Scanner.

i must of got it around 2005/6. stylus cx7800
the scanner light bar moves about a third of teh way across and locks up. so i cant scan anything. i mainly used it to copy, not really scan images and such. the printing works so long as i clean the head it not used for a long time. plus i have an another extra black ink so at this rate i'll be fine for a year or so.

i just wish i could copy. you know important documents and such.

If I HAD to get another all-in-one printer, I would go with the HP LaserJet 3380 or something similar.  At least toner is a dry medium and doesn't evaporate like ink does.

I hate inkjet printers.  Hate, hate, hate them.

Yup. Laser printers are so much cheaper than they used to be. I remember owning an Okidata 200 or some such in the early Nineties. A straight-up b&w laser printer that ran at a slow 4 ppm, but gave out great copies in comparison to dot-matrix printers which are noisy as hell.

I have only laser printers at home, both of 'em Canon Imageclass all-in-one printers. One of 'em is color and the other b&w.

I spent $275 for the color Canon about 3 months ago. Generic toner cartridges (a set of four) ran almost as much.

It is absolutely almost as cheap to simply dump the printer rather than replace the toner/ink.

And don't even talk to me about inkjet printers. I won't have 'em in my house.   :nunchuck:
