As far as I know, there at least a half-dozen discussion forums on the Internet which are exclusively dedicated to whining exposing the truth about Democratic Underground and our members. Why is that? It's because DU is the best liberal discussion forum on the Internet, period.

On one hand, it was great when the primitives were blissfully unaware of our existence, and we could watch them behave in their normal natural primitival state.

But then of course the primitives slowly became aware of our existence, and once a subject knows it's being observed, it changes its behavior.  The behavior's not natural any more.

On the other hand, it's great for the primitives to know they're not God's gift to mankind.

During the 2010 election, it might have been the next day, my friend called me and asked me what I thought of the election. I said I was mostly happy but I had not checked DU yet to see how the left were trying to spin it.

He had no idea what DU was. I gave him the www for it and he kept me on the phone while he checked it out. His reaction was the same as mine the first time seeing the island. The one thing he said that I remember was "My G*d, these people are nuts.". It took me a bit to convince him that it was not a parody site like the Onion.

I cannot imagine mine and my friend's experience is unique.
