James Bond as he was meant to be.

When I was wondering around Auckland I went into a small used book store. Nothing much in there that I was interested in. After a while I stumbled across a old beat up copy of Ian Fleming's Thunderball. As a lark I got it for $6 NZD ( too much considering the condition it was in but the old woman working there looked like she could use the business ).

I LOVED it. I grew tired of James Bond movies in my early 20's but this was how Fleming imagined bond. A kind of rough middle age cold warrior and WW2 vet in the 50s. Someone who smoked too much, drank till he was sick, would piss away money on card games, and get bored in his office doing paper work. Not the suave lady killer that the movies made him out to be.

And you actually got in side of the heads of Bond, Moneypenny, Q, and learned who Blofeld was and where SPECTER came from.

When I get my Kindle replaced and some money coming back in I will start over with Casino Royal.

I want to read Flemming's Bond books, but I can never remember to look for them when I'm at the bookstore or library.  I agree, most of the movies were silly.
