Hard to believe he is no longer with us. He contributed greatly and made The DUmpster section of this forum more interesting.

I don't hang on the dumpster as much as most, but I sure did like his recipes.
R.I.P. LC and Crockspot.  Miss you guys.

Best thing I can suggest is get music to a song you know frontwards and backwards and go along with the notes and the voice. Do that a coupla hundred times, and you'll be surprised how easy it really is! yuck, yuck, yuck!

Why do you think I'm in a choir?  All the other tenors know how to read music, so the first time through, I listen.  The next time through, I blend.

Ya know somethin' . . . that is a good idea! :naughty:

Well, for starters, I'd like to be able to read music . . . so I know what the deuce I'm singing!

Well, depending on your voice range, you're going to be written in one of two clefs. That's where the A, B, C, D, E, F, G thingies come from. And their associated sharps and flats.

Then there's rhythm. Music is divided up to represent time by assigning a time signature. That's what determines the basic unit of measurement. Have a bunch of things called "measures" or "bars" lined up, each one filled up with either notes or rests and you're almost there.

Add a key signature, which automatically assigns flats or sharps to specific notes, and you're done!

See how easy that was?

that ain't readin' music - that's readin' guitar tabs.

Two different things.

It's a like a drummer that wants to call himself a musician. No he ain't - he's a drummer.

Two different things.

Heh! I read both, but when it gets farther up the neck, I prefer the tabs! It ain't like a piano where you're taught the repetition in scales. It can get to be a real pain in the ass, especially with guys like Jimmy Page tunin' to another key!

I don't drop in this section very often so I'm just learning of this. I'm sad to hear it. I enjoyed reading posts from both crock and Servo. RIP to both and prayers to their families.

Found this thread a while ago but didn't feel it was appropriate to post since I never really knew Crockspot.  Anyways, I read one of his posts today and was reminded of what a bright, sharp, intelligent guy he was.  I only knew you through the message board board but I loved what you wrote and looked forward to seeing your posts.  RIP brother.

Even though this is a very old thread, I remember Crockspot from CU and share the good thoughts/memories that the rest of you have. I always enjoyed his posts and no one else has had a hair-do like that in years. If I remember correctly, he even dropped by RO for a short while.

In one of my occassional passes by CU in 2011, I became aware of his death. For the record, I will say it here at the Cave as well.

RIP Crockspot.
