franksolich was responsible for helping to expose the nature of the scam surrounding the Late Red Round One. Exposing this scam was really quite embarrassing to skins, who was led to believe the Scam That Rocked The Internet was copacetic.

Ever since then, skins has been very reluctant to allow any outside fund raising from the island, as it could lead to further embarrassment.

Ironically, one of the main players involved in the details surrounding the Scam That Rocked The Internet is Stupid Beth, who still posts things that will come to embarrass DU in short order - mainly her unending love and adoration of one Hugo Chavez.

Perhaps once Chavez executes half of the people he rules, DU will finally do the sensible thing and Tombstone poor, stupid Beth in the process.

It should be noted this was not the first fleecing of the DUmmies that the Red Round One had been involved in. In the year prior to this fiasco, Bev Harris with help from Red, fleeced them for a voter fraud racket concerning electronic voting machines.

She informed the primitives she could prove shenanigans involving the machines being "hacked" in order to give George W the election. Thus installing John F Kerry, who served in Vietnam, BTW, the presidency, All she needed was just 10 more dollars, from every DUmmie apparently, to fund her wild goose chase.

For a while, for as long as their misfiring synapses would allow it, coach was viewed with such hatred at the DUmp, it was wondrous to behold. He may never have reached the peak of infamy, after all, that position is held in perpetuity by Dubya, but he at least shared the podium. I'm repeating myself, but still, one of the top DUmp posts of all time was a drunken vow by the alcoholic plagiarist Pitt to grind coach under his bootheel, scrape him off with his knife, and feed him to his cat. (We never discovered where Pitt stole that vow, but it was almost surely plagiarized.) All due to coach's role in helping to expose the stupidity of the DUmp in being fleeced for what the ringleaders boasted to be $50K, small potatoes compared to the windfall realized by Beth Harris in her "black box voting" swindle. The DUmp is fertile ground for those who would prey on the weak-minded, and they hate having that pointed out. The Andyscam was especially embarrassing for the DUmp because two of the key perpetrators, Beth Ferrari and DUmmy flyarm, are among the DUmbest of the DUmb. Beth, of course, is the DUmbest person on all the internets.

No one knows for sure who got the money, a great deal of which was contributed by kind-hearted but gullible conservatives and Republicans; perhaps more than what the primitives themselves donated.

The money went directly into the late red round one's Paypal account, and checks, cash, and money orders were sent to his mailing address.

But as already mentioned, months before the scam started, the late red round one knew he was terminal, and appears to have accepted it with equanimity.  He died two months and about a week or ten days, after the scam started.

I can't believe it was his idea; it had to be hers.

But for what reason, we'll never know, because circa early 2006, Doug's stupid ex-wife began betraying an invasive senility--it's been obvious in her comments on Skins's island, if one's read her long enough--and as one reasonably supposes, she's utterly arteriosclerotic now.

The only reminder franksolich has of the Scamdal is that every January in the mail arrives one of those free calendars from the attorney-general of Washington state.....of Nebraska.....of Illinois.....of Ohio.....of Maryland.

Its a mystery - one that will never be solved. I always assumed the money went into the pockets of The Late Red Round One's 'life partner' who vanished from DU after this whole affair blew over.

There are about 300 million people in America and out of that vast number the ONE person who just so happened to have been a partner in crime with the Bev Harris election fraud scandal pleads with DUmmieland to give him $25,000 for an operation at Johns Hopkins hospital. If you remember, Bev Harris conned the DUmmies out of at least $300,000 because of her claim that she was just “$10 away” from proving election fraud. I say at least $300,000 because that is all that Bev unofficially claimed even though by LAW she was supposed to officially let the public know how much she scammed due to filing as a non-profit corporation with the Feds. Soooo….. After being scammed by Bev bigtime guess who comes along and pleads for MORE money? None other than her partner in crime….Andy Stephenson. You would think that would raise alarm bells in DUmmieland but nooooooo, they unquestioningly handed over their money like the good suckers they are. Not only that, after Andy received the $25,000 (which wasn’t delivered to the Johns Hopkins “money lady” as promised) he comes back to the DUmmies and asks for ANOTHER $25,000. At that point I thought even the DUmmies would become somewhat skeptical but nooooooo, led by the cheerleading Pied Piper Pitt, they went over the cliff listening to his reassuring pipe tune and shelled out yet MORE money. So this morning Andy was scheduled to enter Johns Hopkins FOR SURE. Guess what? He didn’t. Perhaps you aren’t the least bit surprised by this OBVIOUS scam but in DUmmieland they are shellshocked. Can it be? Were we really scammed despite all the alarm bells ringing about this for months? So now we come to DUmmie Skinner, the absolute STUPIDEST forum administrator ever to explain that, um yes, there is the possibility that we feeble minded fools were scammed ONCE AGAIN. Earlier today someone claimed that the entire thing was a hoax to scam our members out of their money.

It is our preference to let our members weigh the evidence, and decide for themselves if they feel comfortable donating or not.

Our policy of not verifying anyone should not be interpreted as a statement about the legitimacy of any claim, including this one. Put yourself in our position. If we say "we think this is legit" then we might help someone in need, but we are personally responsible if it turns out to be a hoax. But if we say "we don't think this is legit" then we might protect people from being scammed, but there is a chance that a person in need goes without help. So, we're kinda stuck.

The problem is made worse by the fact that we all know that the potential for abuse is huge. And they didn't even have to provide any proof whatsoever. (Again, let me repeat: This is not a statement on the legitimacy of Andy Stephenson's situation. I'm just trying to be honest about the issues involved.)

Some people have raised a large amount of money -- mostly from the members of Democratic Underground, but also from some other websites -- which they claim will be used to pay for surgery for Andy Stephenson at Johns Hopkins University Hospital. They say the surgery was supposed to be today, but it was postponed.

Earlier today, a DU member by the name of MrNiceGuyDied posted a few messages claiming that he had been in contact with a Dr. Cameron at Johns Hopkins University Hospital, who told him that this was a hoax.

Then, a DU member by the name of qanda started a thread claiming the same thing. The thread by qanda did not mention the posts by MrNiceGuyDied. In the thread, qanda gave the impression that qanda had called Dr. Cameron and was told that this was a hoax.

All hell broke loose. The moderators and I had to step in and lock all the threads.

qanda posted an apology in my thread which said this: "I apologize for starting the thread questioning the story about Andy. I am way too cynical, and should not have been so quick to believe someone who had no clue." So, qanda seems to be saying that their thread was based on the post by MrNiceGuyDied, but that is not clear.

When the goal for the fund drive suddenly changed from $25,000 to $50,000, we started to get concerned. Last week I called Johns Hopkins Hospital to try to verify that Andy Stephenson is actually getting surgery. Every person I talked to gave me the same answer: Federal privacy laws forbid them from disclosing the names of patients. I want to be clear: My actions are not a reflection on Andy or any other members of this website. I was hoping to quietly verify Andy's story myself, and nobody would be the wiser.

Yesterday, as part of my search, I was directed to an individual at Johns Hopkins with the job title of "patient representative". We have been playing phone tag since then, so we haven't talked yet. Given the previous responses, I am pretty doubtful that she can help us out.

Given that this has become an issue, I think we all need to do what we can to put all the concerns to rest.
