Talk about selective thinking..
It's ok for the government to regulate kids intake of junk food, sugar, and pop....but it's wrong for anyone to tell a woman that a 6yo kid is too old to breastfeed.
I breast fed both my kids....first one - 8months, second - 5.5months. My daughter just stopped night "feedings" on her second when she turned one, primarily because my granddaughter still has troubles grasping the concept of "the entire night is for sleeping".
I knew a woman back in the 80's who was a 70's flower child, who didn't stop feeding her son until he was 5. She asked me what I thought of that...I told her she it was weird, that she was doing it for herself rather than her child...and I personally thought it was creepy. Naturally she got offended, and I told her she shouldn't have asked me if she really didn't want to know what I thought. Have to admit, though....I already had thought she was weird when I found out she had her first name legally changed to "Eve" after she married her husband, Adam.
Every once in a while, a moonbat wanders into the area.....and manages to avoid Deliverance.
For the men out there, once a woman knows how to hold the baby so feeding is not painfull, then is when the relief begins. When the breasts are engorged they are painfull and feeding relieves the swelling and hurt.
Not that cats are human, but the mechanics of breast feeding is much alike in mammals one reason to call breasts mammary or the mammary gland. Back to the cats----on farms cats will not out of any kind of mental process feed each others kittens- they act as a wet nurse to get the milk out and stop the pressure.
Some woman have a responce to an infants cry that is not her own up to a year after she stops breast feeding.
Some mothers will retard their own children by trying to keep them totally dependent on them, some are so overprotective that the child is still in diapers at 5 years old. Keeping them dependent on their breast milk until they are 5-6 is for the mother not the child. There is little nutrition in breast milk after 2 -3 years and it is the sucking responce that the children crave. I have seen 3-4 year old kids that still demand their binkey. A reason one calls that device a pacifier.
Some cultures do breast feed for years longer then necessary as the belief is that a woman lactating will not become pregnant. Natures way to insure the developing baby has enough nutrition to grow.----Sometime this just don't work as life will find a way.
On the other end of the spectrum the cultures that hand a new born baby to a wet nurse so the mother can churn out another baby as soon as possible.
Then there are story's out of Siberia during the great famine of men that did produce milk when their wives died in child birth.
Breast feeding in all mammals has the purpose of nutrition until a child can eat on their own.
Personally seeing a 3-4 year old wandering about with a bottle in their mouth is disconcerting to me---but that is just me.
