How do you cook your asparagus when cooking it by itself?
« on: October 31, 2010, 08:02:08 PM »
I prefer it as simple as possible. I just drizzle with a little olive oil, salt, pepper, and bake it. Sometimes we grill it, but still I keep it simple.

And I know some people despise asparagus, but I really love it these days.

Steamed until bright green, and al dente. Pour melted butter mixed with a bit of lemon juice over it, and sprinkle with lemon pepper.

If I want it for a summertime thing.....I will dump it in boiling water for about 3 minutes, then in ice cold water. Take it out and lay it out on paper towels to dry.  I marinate it in olive oil and balsamic vinegar, with finely minced red onion. To serve, take it out of the marinade, and sprinkle some of the marinated onion over the top.
Just hand over the chocolate...back away slowly...far away....and you won't get hurt....

Save the Earth... it's the only planet with chocolate.

"My therapist told me the way to achieve true inner peace is to finish what I start. So far I've finished two bags of M&M's and a chocolate cake. I feel better already." – Dave Barry

A balanced diet is chocolate in both hands.

This works for me.  Bearnaise is always a good standby, and I have no aversions to using a sauce that came from an envelope.

My mom has some recipe she uses that's just shallots, mushrooms, and salt.  You can use it on green beans, asparagus, broccoli.  I think I could eat that just by itself.

The first sounds yummy to me. Haven't done that yet, but I will next time.

I've done the second, or something very similar.

If I have to cook that stuff (yuck), it'll go on the grill after having been drizzled with some olive oil, salt and pepper.

This is one of the nasty veggies for me - not quite as stinky and obnoxious as Brussels sprouts, but close.

Ya know, those folks that eat those things might as well go grab a handful of grass or some leaves from a tree and chow down..... I'm not big on salads, either. Once in while is OK, but seriously?? I'm NOT a cow or a horse!!

I cut the spears to fit a slice of bread - cover with cheese , sprinkle with minced proscuito and grill until golden.

Or

Lightly fry (still crispy) and serve with fried haloumi cheese.

I don't think I've had asparagus since I was a kid and we used to pick some that grew wild.

If grilling, put it in a tinfoil packet, with some butter, parmesan, and lemon juice.

What's the purpose in "grilling" if you're gonna use tin foil??  :mental:

Good Lord have mercy!  Just another way to steam asparagus, if you don't want to turn the oven on.

Depends on the weather outside and if I'm running the BBQ or not.

If running BBQ--drizzle in olive oil, put on a bit of garlic, lemon juice, salt and pepper.

If inside, steamer.  Bernaise optional.

Anyone ever smoked vegetables? (not you, Tots.  We know what you did.)

I had some smoke Jalapenos stuffed with cheese once before. :puke: They were so heavily smoked, it killed the flavor.

Normally, when in season, I like to steam or stir fry if making a stir fry dinner.

I just got these from Omahasteak and will have tomorrow.
