How far do you travel to vote?
« on: November 02, 2010, 09:54:53 AM »
I just got back from voting and was curious ... How far do you travel to vote?

It is a little over 10 miles to our polling booth so around 21 miles for me.

Almost two whole blocks, it's a grueling journey, uphill, both ways.

I go about 5 miles, 10 miles round trip.  I could vote closer, but it is in downtown, and parking is a PITA.

eta:  I voted a week and a half ago, in early voting.

About a 5 minute drive.  On a side note, the laborer's union hall next door is packed this morning. Call in an airstrike. :)

About six miles.

There's a problem here in Nebraska, because some years ago the state legislature decided to define precincts by population, not by geographical area.

We have a county here larger than the whole state of Connecticut, that based upon population only, warrants only four precincts.  This means some people have to make 120-mile round-trips to vote.

We also have several counties the size of Delaware or Rhode Island, one or two precincts.

The problem was supposed to be fixed, but I dunno if has been yet.

To their credit, the solid stalwart red citizenry of rural Nebraska, despite having to go these tremendous distances, maintain their much-above-national-average voting turnout.

Less that a mile, but there are at least 4 polling places within a mile radius, so I went to the wrong one at first.

We did early voting, the one we went to is about 6 miles away. It was a new place that was used for the primaries. Really convenient. Other one is about the same distance, but more people know about it.  ;D

To the mailbox . . . but to be fair, I have to walk all the way down the driveway!  ;D

(The actual polling place is at the police station which is less than an 1/8th of a mile away)

About 300 yds. My whole island is one town, one polling place at the town hall, and we only have about 300 or so registered voters.

Depends which one.  I did early voting at the library, which is less than a mile away.  My assigned voting place is a church about 2.5 miles from home.

About 30 miles. I go to work, which is 15 miles, and then vote on the way back home.     :D
