Bathroom update
« on: September 06, 2010, 08:26:08 PM »
My husband finished the floor, grouted and put up crown moulding this weekend. If we didn't go to our friends yesterday for dinner he could have gotten the sink and toilet in. Next we will have the bathtub refinished. He framed the medicine cabinet mirror as well but didn't get it all finished. He is using the mirrored medicine cabinet that was in the bathroom and making it look like an old medicine cabinet.  Similar to the one below.

The pictures are really blurry and grainy. I took them with my phone.

WOW!  That looks great.

Thanks Chris. I can even claim I had a hand in a little bit of it. I helped him with the crown moulding. It was a bitch to put up. Especially because my husband doesn't have a miter saw.

This thing has taken twice as long as we thought it was going to take.  I wish the color of the paint wasn't as green as it came out. I thought it was going to be more grey.  It's called Stone, you would think it would be grey.  Especially because the sample looked grey.

I agree - it looks fabulous.

You know, BEG, miter saws aren't that expensive. The blades can be, especially with the more-teeth-per-inch styles, but the saws themselves - even compound saws - are pretty reasonable. Maybe $200 or so, unless you buy a DeWalt. In that case, you'd better take out a second mortgage.  :p

There's no way I'd have the skills in doing what your husband has done, but even still, I use my miter saw a helluva lot more than just about any other power tool save my drills.

He refused to buy one. I tried to talk him into getting one but he said he didn't want to store another tool that he probably won't use again. He already had to buy a tile saw, which he ended up hating. He cut the moulding on a table saw and it was very frustrating.  I was afraid he didn't order enough moulding to account for screw ups. He had nothing left over when he was done. The moulding wasn't cheap either (it was an after thought too, we originally weren't going to do it).

He has a ton of tools and I was surprised that he didn't already have one.

Some more updates. He hasn't hooked up the the water to the sink or the drain. We looked at home depot and lowes for a really nice chrome drain and water lines but they didn't have nice ones and since they will show we don't want it to look cheap. I ordered it online. We are having the bathtub reglazed on thursday. My husband is working on the medicine cabinet now (you can see the insert in the picture). He hasn't put the shower fixtures in yet and he is going to build shelves above the toilet for towels. I need accessories which I haven't picked out yet.

Again, it's blurry because I'm lazy and I took pictures with my phone and not my camera.

Ceiling of shower again. My husband built the soffit, it wasn't there before.

Nice--the sink looks similar to what I have in my downstairs 1/2 bath/laundry room.

Shhhh it's illegal.  I smuggled it via my mom in Texas. It's the stupid laws here in CA. You could buy this faucet in every other state except for one because CA hasn't tested it yet for lead content. I'm a rebel like that.

I originally ordered it from vintage tub and bath, along with the tub/shower fixtures and they called me a couple days after and told me they couldn't ship it to CA because of the lead law in CA and that CA hadn't tested that brand yet for lead. They could send the shower fixture but not the sink. So I asked her if I could have my mom who lived in another state order it and send it to me. LOL stupid of me because as soon as I said it I knew she couldn't tell me yes. She said no of course. I told her I still wanted the shower fixture and that I would look at their site for another sink fixture. Hung up, called my Mom.  She ordered it and when she got it she sent it to me. It's free shipping so the only shipping it cost me was from my mom to me. In the end my mom said I didn't have to pay her, it was her late housewarming gift to us.

We didn't have a choice about living in CA. Either live in CA or don't have a job in this economy.

I know. If it came down too it, I would have made the same decision. I just have a knee jerk reaction to the asinine rules Kalifornia has in place to keep the people in line.

To register our cars in CA, mine was about $600 and my hudsnfs was around $480.   Back in dallas we paid around $70 bucks for each car.

Awesome!  Some day I will be redoing my bathrooms, and am trying to keep the decor/fixtures as close to the time period as possible.  This link will help me get there!

You can thank Ahhhnold (raising the rate) and the Dimwits for that. it's a % of the value of the vehicle. These same idiots saw what vintage cars were going for, say like a 55, 56, or 57 Chevy going for 60 grand, and wanted to tax on that value (Dimwits). One problem, that was a RESTORED car at auction, and not a restorable or un-restored car that would only go for 5-7K,(at most) as most are.  The law diden't pass. Boneheads.  :hammer:
