I think this problem has to do with the ethos of DU posters. Many political sites do fine regardless of administration because their members are discussing who and what they like and what they can do to make good things happen.

DU was founded on the premise of who and what they hate, and how they can help to ensure failure.

Even though the Democrats currently own everything politically, many who post on DU are still negative thinkers, and base their words & actions on reactionary politics. So now they are eating their own.

I can't donate because I'm moving in 11 days, and had to empty the piggy bank to pay first month/last month/security deposit for my new apartment. That and money is generally tight these days is forcing me to keep my checkbook in my pocket.

It's the 20th, and lots of folks (myself included) are not going to see another paycheck until the 1st of September.

However, reading between the lines of Skins' last rally-call, one suspects "average donations" are down.  Maybe it used to be circa $25, and is now circa $15.  All appearances seem to be that this fund drive was not nearly as fruitful as others had been.  The tightwad primitives should be ashamed of themselves.

Every fund drive, for years and years and years, Skins has always aimed for a thousand donors.

I'm sure he has a figure in mind as a "goal," like say $25,000 or something, but he keeps it to himself (as well he is entitled to).  I don't think he made it this time around.

Any guesses where Skimmer will go to 'decompress' now that the flock has been sheared?  I browsed his entire pandering thread and noted only one who had the audacity to speculate what use das capital would be put to. I am sure a note was made for later attention.

Using my sticky estimation technique, it looks like skins netted no more than 12K. (800 stickies) Skins posted his operating costs in the past, and If I recall, they amount to about 5 grand a month. Meaning this donation drive is a failure.

I think there are a variety of views here at DU.....

However, I believe that some folks' disagreements have become personal beyond what should be acceptable.

When my name is actively used via DU PMs to recruit posters to another site whose main pastime is to criticize DU posters and the DU administration (you Skinner) along with the Democratic President and his administration, then I have to start believing that those same folks don't have good intentions towards this community, and that cannot be good for you, for DU in general, and for the Democratic party at large.

It's the smug attitudes from libs like the frog kitty that have gone a long ways towards turning off the general public from even being willing to listen to their viewpoints.  They don't see it.  And even the libs that post at the elm tree site hold the same smug attitude while complaining about their fellow libs on Skin's island having smug attitudes.  I mean, if you go around believing that there are some conservatives on this site advocating fascism while holding beliefs like corps are out to rule the world, then the chance of reasonable people listening to you is virtually non-existant, and even moreso if your speech comes across as though you find yourself to be intelligent.  Who really has time to suffer these fools for very long?
