A prisoner killed two U.S. Marines in southern Afghanistan after escaping a prayer room and grabbing a rifle, NATO said Monday.

"The prisoner escaped a room where he was observing prayer time, acquired a rifle and subsequently engaged Afghan and coalition forces. The Marines were killed while trying to subdue the prisoner," NATO said in a statement.

The alliance said the gunman was later shot dead and that the incident, on Saturday, was under investigation.

If a US soldier professing to be a Christian was/is/will be captured I would expect him/her to do their duty as a soldier and resist at every opportunity to make good their escape.

All's fair in love and war and all that.

However, what I cannot comprehend is how the US government insists on telling us that the Islam practiced by terrorists is not real Islam but some hijacked, bastardized version of Islam but then insists on making the most absurd accommodations to allow terrorists to continue operating within this so-called hijacked bastardization.

Well, let's lobotomize ourselves for 5 minutes and pretend Islam really is a religion of peace or has enough peaceful unctions that peace can be accommodated by Islam.

If you ask liberals or triangulating pols, "Are the terorists a part of 'authentic Islam'?"

They will fall over themselves to tell you this is not so.

But then we must ask, "Then why are we giving material support to a false version of Islam? Would that not then be an insult to real Muslims?"
