Navistar scraps plans for Lisle, (IL) headquarters

Quote
Navistar International Corp. has decided to scrap its plans for a new corporate headquarters in west suburban Lisle, saying local opposition to the project is "jeopardizing our image."

In a letter dated Tuesday to Lisle Mayor Joseph Broda, Navistar CEO Daniel Ustian said the opposition to the project "is jeopardizing our image and that of many innocent people who have advocated for us."

"We cannot in good conscience allow our supporters to be put on trial or their name jeopardized in the name of this project," he added.
Officials at a nearby school for autistic children and other neighbors have opposed the development in part because of worries about air pollution, noise, traffic and safety issues at the former Alcatel-Lucent site, 2600 Warrenville Rd.

Sharp said Navistar will look at establishing its headquarters at other locations the company had previously explored in Alabama, Texas and South Carolina.

Company officials, who planned to invest $100 million in the new campus, said the move would have generated and preserve more than 7,000 direct and indirect jobs for Lisle and pump $4.5 million annually into the local economy.

Yay, more common sense from the left in Illinois. :sarcasm:

Got the perfect spot for them in S.C.. The right modern, 4 story, office building  abandoned by local textile company....ready to go operation with other related building near by ... within 1/2 mile of expanding local airport capable of handling jet aircraft and just a few miles from the interstate and other major roads....willing work force what with 20% unemployment in the county.... AND... politicians being politicians, I'm sure they would give some tax breaks just as long as it did add just a few dollars to the budget for them to play with.

B.S. aside...this probably has more to do with Obama mandating higher fuel efficiency for trucks than anything else. CAT has already gotten out or is getting out of the business of building truck engines because of the government.
“The American people will never knowingly adopt socialism. But, under the name of ‘liberalism’, they will adopt every fragment of the socialist program, until one day America will be a socialist nation, without knowing how it happened.” - Norman Thomas, U.S. Socialist Party presidential candidate 1940, 1944 and 1948

"America is like a healthy body and its resistance is threefold: its patriotism, its morality, and its spiritual life. If we can undermine these three areas, America will collapse from within."  Stalin
