World's 50 best restaurants list released
« on: April 28, 2010, 10:50:33 AM »
Quote
Danish cuisine reigns supreme, according to some of the planet's most prominent eaters.

S. Pellegrino's annual "World's 50 Best Restaurants" list was released on Monday at a celebrity-chef-studded event in London, England, marking the ninth edition of the much buzzed-about (and hotly debated) catalogue of the international culinary landscape.

The No. 1 spot goes to Noma in Copenhagen, Denmark. The restaurant, helmed by chef René Redzepi, ranked No. 3 in 2009. ...SNIP...

1) Noma (Copenhagen, Denmark)

2) El Bulli (Roses, Spain)

3) The Fat Duck (Bray, England)

4) El Celler de Can Roca (Girona, Spain)

5) Mugaritz (Errenteria, Spain)

6) Osteria Francescana (Modena, Italy)

7) Alinea (Chicago, Illinois)

8) Daniel (New York)

9) Arzak (San Sebastián, Spain)

10) Per Se (New York) ...

I tried to get a reservation at El Bulli this year, no luck.  :bawl:

I don't trust any "best" list that ignores Taco Bell.

I'd probably be just disappointed, like I've been at several "high class" places.

One of the best meals I've had recently/ever was at the "Steak House" in the Nugget in Carson City NV.
The wife and I had the steak and lobster special. Seriously, I've had some good steaks in my time (from Maxwells Plumb to Emerils dry aged NewYork, to a local place, Smokey Mountain Steakhouse, that "imports" "special beef", ), but this was amazing. For 24 bucks you got two tails and fillet minion. The tails and steak were really the best I've ever had. Just incredible. The wine list was very good and reasonably priced.
Even on a weeknight, in this little podunk town, you need reservations.

Really! and Indeed!  I was once served a steak "nugget" about the size of a half dollar on a turkey platter with steak sauce making a lattice design on the platter and a mimosa palm laying beside it as garnish.

Been there!  ::) At Maxwells Plumb (long since folded) an ala carte plate was $17, 20 years ago. Essentially an appetizer.

Notice they are mostly in Europe and are fusion haute cuisine.

We've eaten at Alinea in Chicago, and the only thing that impressed me was the bill.......cost me $400 for three people.......the food was fairly ordinary.......

I hate leaving a restaurant hungry, I don't need massive portions but micro food is not on.

You know, Bij....I've heard many people poke fun at British restaurants/food, but in my time there, I thought the food was pretty damn good......I ate in pubs a lot, and found that they have the best curry you can find outside of Bombay.......

Never understood that.......the coffee sucks tho, and warm beer is not my thing, but to each his own......
