I'm listening to Rangel exhort us to not jump to conclusions until after the Ethics Committee's investigation is done.

Why is Rangel not being prosecuted for this?  Is this just a formal rebuke deal or can we hope for a REAL investigation and trial?

The only reason San Fran Nan is allowing this is to keep her "most ethical Congress ever" comment from biting the Dems in the ass in November.  Her problem is that a lot of moderates remember that comment, and are willing to vote Dem bums out.

114.5 is the over/under for Dem losses in the House.  I'm taking the over.

According to FN this morning...no agreement has been reached to avoid a hearing or trial.

They also showed a clip of John Boehner(R-OH) blaming Pelosi for not taking action sooner against Rangel, and that the whole mess shouldn't have ever reached the point it's at right now.

Ethics subcommittee recommends reprimand for Rangel

The ethics panel investigating Rep. Charles Rangel (D-N.Y.) is recommending that he be reprimanded for the conduct that resulted in 13 charges against the veteran lawmaker.

Rep. Gene Green (D-Texas), chairman of the ethics investigative subcommittee that announced the charges, told reporters Friday that his panel concluded Rangel should be reprimanded.

"The recommendation that we had was that he be reprimanded," Green said.

The only good thing this time is that this has been all over the news, and not just Fox this time, for several weeks...not only that he was being investigated, but also what he has done.

Letting him off with just a reprimand, when people all over the country are hurting, and still having to pay their taxes, after admitting to everything...letting another government critter off with a slap on the hand, might not be so easily shrugged off as it has in the past.

The ethics subcommittee investigating Rep. Charlie Rangel has recommended a reprimand for the Harlem Democrat, who was yesterday charged  on 13 counts of ethics violations. A different subcommittee will try Rangel in September and recommend a punishment, which will be voted on by the entire House.

the republicans are playing this very badly.  we don't want a trial before the midterms;  rangel is an adept and able debater.  and the charges, all things considered, are just not that severe.

No deal has been cut. One Democratic member recommended only a reprimand but he later stated that he had misspoken. The House trial will begin in mid Sept. The 13 charges against him are insurmountable for him to overcome. He is the crown jewel of the black caucus but between now and the trial democrats will put a lot of pressure to step down. My guess is that he will resign the day prior to the trial. If not, his goose is cooked and he will drag the dummiecrats down even further.

Rangel: What’s in it for him to stand and fight?

By Rachel Rose Hartman
Fri Jul 30, 5:33 pm ET

Charlie Rangel's dealing days are over. Whatever else happens to the embattled Democratic congressman from New York — who's facing 13 charges from the House Ethics Committee, involving everything from incomplete financial filings to improper fundraising for a center named in his honor at New York's City College — he won't have a settlement in his pocket allowing him to hang onto the congressional seat he's held for 39 years.

Such a deal appeared to be in place earlier this week, when the committee offered Rangel a settlement that would result in an official reprimand — a penalty far less severe than expulsion or censure. But the lawmaker declined, instead pushing forward with a public trial in the House.

The complete charges were released Thursday, and many political leaders and pundits have since called for his resignation. There are numerous reasons Democratic leaders would like Rangel to quietly step away — chief among them the effect a corruption trial would have on public opinion during an already difficult election year.

But Rangel said he wants the opportunity to defend himself and has no plans to step down from Congress.

So what's in it for Rangel to remain in office and suffer through this public trial? Here's a brief rundown:

I think if this happens, many people will lose any faith left in congress ever investigating their own.

Rangel's colleagues hanging on to his dirty money

At least 46 Democratic members of Congress -- including nine senators and 43 congressmen -- are hanging on to more than $343,000 in donations they received from embattled former House Ways and Means Committee Chairman Charles Rangel, D-N.Y., during the 2008 election cycle.

Those 46 are in marked contrast to the 27 incumbent Democrats who earlier this year returned $378,000 in campaign donations from Rangel's political action committee, including nine who returned $165,000 but only after being asked about the funds by The Examiner.

'I Am Not Going Away,' Rangel Tells Fellow Lawmakers

New York Democrat Charles Rangel told his fellow lawmakers Tuesday in a rambling floor speech that he's not resigning, despite 13 charges of ethical wrongdoing.

"I am not going away," the former Ways and Means Committee chairman declared in a defiant tone. "Fire your best shot in getting rid of me through expulsion."

"You're not going to get me to resign to make you feel comfortable," he said, before offering a word of advice to his colleagues.

I saw part of his ramblings on Fox News.

He's blaming all of them for the timing. He said that this investigation has been going on for a couple of years, the fact that it comes at election time, is not his fault. It won't be his fault if they lose at the polls.

At least he didn't blame Bush.....
