Nicohol?
« on: January 14, 2010, 08:12:27 PM »
Driving home I heard another commercial complaining about smoking bans in bars. The jist of it was that drinkin' ain't no more fun without a smoke. Sounds reasonable. But lot's of limp wristed hysterical types can't stand second hand smoke. So I thought, why not just put the friggin' nicotine in the beer and make everybody happy.

Yeah, I know liquid nicotine can kill on contact with the skin. I was thinking on cutting the dosage. Anyway, I was wondering if there were any scientifical types around here who could explain why this will or will not work. Has this been tried before?

I mean besides dumping a can of Skoal in your boilermaker.

Sure. Atomizers really speed the nicotine delivery process right along. I was kinda hoping though, to market a new product that would horrify the lefties, alarm the government, and help with the DT shakes the morning after.

Lady Nicotine is tasteless in it's refined form. I was just wondering if adding a toxic and corrosive substance to a martini (besides an olive) would affect the chemical composition of the drink. Maybe nicotine would break down the alcohol, destroy it's shelf life or something.

But if it worked, I know I'd buy a six pack of Smokey Joes.

If you're such a wussy that you can't handle a little smoke, you're to much of a wussy to handle alcohol.

Oh my.

There was a parody ad on the radio in GTA IV about a nicotine-alcohol product.
According to the Bible, "know" means "yes."

Dang. But it makes sense. It's too good of an idea for someone not to have thought of it first.

And Mr. Reb, please don't give the Socialists any ideas. They've taken enough away from us already.

FALSE. They have no power to take away anything you don't give them voluntarily.

What is this? Have you been following the news for the last 20 years or so? Of course the government takes stuff away from us without our consent.

Anyway. I was hoping someone with some familiarity with chemistry might be able to explain why or why not this idea would work.

O.K. I sent a message to Mr or Mrs. Irish. Turns out the lethal dose of nicotine is 50mg. Further, Mr or Mrs. Irish sent me an article that claims that nicotine may reduce the cravings for alcohol in those people who are just getting out of rehab. Drunken Rats

If true, I may need to combat this effect by upping the alcohol content of the aforementioned six pack of Smokey Joes.

Unless this whole idea is stepping on the intellectual property rights of the GTA game makers.

"Results: Overall, the rats treated daily with nicotine during both the abstinence and relapse phases (Nic. All) significantly increased their alcohol intake compared with the rats treated daily with vehicle alone (Control). Similarly, rats treated with nicotine during the alcohol abstinence phase only (Nic. Abst.) also increased their alcohol consumption. However, rats treated with nicotine during the alcohol relapse phase only (Nic. Rel.) decreased their alcohol intake. In addition, a more exhaustive analysis showed critical differences in patterns of alcohol consumption during the first hour and the first day of alcohol access."

The study only suggests that nicotine negatively affects alcohol consumption if it is taken during the relapse phase only. If it is taken during any other phase, it increases the need to drink...so you should be in the clear.

On the other hand, you could be truly evil and market the product for bars and as a potential alcoholism treatment..be an evil, corporatist conservative.  :fuelfire:  :cheersmate:

P.S. I am a male...the picture is of my sister at Notre Dame Stadium (her first time there).

We can do both. Smokey Joes in the bars and we'll call the same product Simply Clean for the rehab crowd.

And thanks for the clarification Mr. Irish. I'm glad your adorable sister got an opportunity to visit Gods Stadium.

It could be marketed as a product for weaning a person of alcohol, once they've gone through alcohol abstinence, as long as they don't use nicotine during the abstinence phase.

Who cares? Just slap a warning label on the bottle and let the legal department worry about it.

And yes Mr. Irish. I am indeed an Evil Conservative. It's the website I come from. It's entirely built upon the premise that lefties are terribly gullible and should be separated from their near worthless Obamabucks as quickly as possible. We're currently working on gaining federal recognition for our Indian tribe, (SmakaHo) looking for new members for our Mulisha' (Burrs Bastards) and planning the annual poker run for the motorcycle club (Gorilla War Machine).

And it's five bucks to join the union.
