----------

The story's two weeks old, but we'll see.

----------

The Big 12 title scenario has been wrapped up before the final weekend of the season for the first time in six seasons.

The Nebraska-Texas title game Dec. 5 in Arlington, Texas, was set Saturday after the Cornhuskers beat Kansas State and the Longhorns defeated Kansas to wrap up their respective division titles.

The title game will match two of the league’s dominant powers in a rivalry that began even before the conference started.

The Cornhuskers and Longhorns battled on everything from the league’s choice of a first commissioner to the location of the league’s offices and the need for partial qualifiers before games began.

It made it even more delicious when the two superpowers clashed in two of the first four seasons of the conference, with Texas winning in 1996 and Nebraska in 1999.

It will be Nebraska’s fifth title-game appearances, pushing it past Colorado for most in the Big 12 North. And it will be Texas’ fifth appearance as well, trailing only Oklahoma’s record seven title-game berths.

It also will make the Texas-Nebraska the most played matchup in Big 12 championship game history. Kansas State-Oklahoma, Colorado-Oklahoma, Colorado-Texas and Missouri-Oklahoma all have been played two previous times.

Seven teams have accounted for all of the previous Big 12 title-game appearances. Here's how they rank.

North Division

Nebraska 5
Colorado 4
Kansas State 3
Missouri 2

South Division

Oklahoma 7
Texas 5
Texas A&M 2

Teams that have never made a Big 12 title appearance include Baylor, Iowa State, Kansas, Oklahoma State and Texas Tech.
