Annie Leibovitz, photographer of stars, faces ruin
« on: August 23, 2009, 01:21:24 PM »
Quote
Annie Leibovitz is as famous as the people she photographs but now the genius behind the lens is close to financial ruin -- a victim, some say, of her own relentless artistic ambition.
Among the qualities making Leibovitz, 59, the most sought after portrait photographer in the world are legendary perfectionism and the pouring of resources into lavish sets.
...
Yet behind a facade of unlimited financial means, Leibovitz was spending her way into nightmare.
In what now appears as a disastrous decision to raise funds, Leibovitz took a 24-million-dollar loan from Art Capital Group (ACG) -- in effect a high-end pawn broker -- in December 2008 using her own photographs as collateral.
That debt is due September 8 and if she can't pay up, she could lose her life's work. ...

I have read a couple of versions of this and I still can't see how she managed to spend quite so much money so quickly.

She should turn to the likes of Paul McCartney and Yoko Ono for a bailout.

I read the article about her financial troubles in New York mag. (Why on God's green earth we even get that one I don't know. I guess it was in lieu of a pony HA)

Apparently Annie and reality ain't friends. She's a perfectionist who thought nothing of spending thousands and thousands of dollars to get just the right angle on a photo shoot. Also branded a tyrant for treating staff horribly. I am not surprised at all to see her in this situation.
I can see November 2 from my house!!!

No, my friends, there’s only one really progressive idea. And that is the idea of legally limiting the power of the government. That one genuinely liberal, genuinely progressive idea — the Why in 1776, the How in 1787 — is what needs to be conserved. We need to conserve that fundamentally liberal idea. That is why we are conservatives. --Bill Whittle

Wasn't she the twit called out last year for shooting a sitting with Juan McLame, and staging the shots so that he looked like the devil incarnate or something?

She has "sold" them for 24 mil and not paid the taxes I bet.....probably in the running to be Obama's "Art Czar".

But, under the name of ‘liberalism’, they will adopt every fragment of the socialist program, until one day America will be a socialist nation, without knowing how it happened.” - Norman Thomas, U.S. Socialist Party presidential candidate 1940, 1944 and 1948

No, you're thinking of Jill Greenburg.  Another "tolerant" liberal.
